4.4 TDV8 Throttle Body

Just a quick question. The plastic connector that attaches to the throttle body via the metal clip, how tight a fit should this be? I can turn mine very easily and there is a few millimetres of movement, although I can’t actually pull it off unless I take the clip off. There appears to be no gasket of any type between the connector and the throttle body and I’m curious about this being a possible air intake leak as I would have expected this to have been a tight fit

My clip give way leading to restricted and DPF full.
Once the clip was bent in a bit I refitted the pipe and been ok since.
There was no gasket.

If yours has excess play, maybe a couple of wraps of plumbing PTFE tape. Just to keep it snug. Tip; use the gas version of PTFE, it's thicker.

There is a green 2 lipped rubber seal further into the pipe that slides over the throttle body to make the seal. The clip is basically to hold it in place. You can't buy the seal separately though. I know because my pipe felt loose and had a bit of oily residue at the connection. It's got the full force of the turbo blowing through it and I think it could have been designed better. Cheers Kev.

Hi Kevin, certainly something to check. The idea of a seal makes perfect sense to me, bit crazy that you can't buy it seperatley though especially as it's an item that could perish over time.

Got round to looking at this today. There was definitely some oil/soot residue on the underside so this has now been cleaned up. I took the rubber seal out and gave this a clean and inspected it for any splits but couldn’t see any. Reseated this and carefully slid the plastic back over the throttle body. Annoying that you can’t just buy a new seal as I’m sure over time it will become compressed and less able to seal properly. Once I’m able to get out and take it for I will be able to see if any oil/soot starts to reappear

It's a lot easier to get off if you remove the rubber hose completely from the intercooler first. Less chance of breaking that delicate water connection that goes over it. Then with a screwdriver gently pry the clip out of its locating slots. Just make sure you bend it to a complete circle before putting it back on with the split at the bottom.

Stripped mine down today as a bit of preventative maintenance. The clip was loose so bent it back into shape a bit like Greg did. Not sure it made a huge amount of difference. Little bit of oily soot underneath but not too fussed as I’ve not had any issues to date...touch wood Bow down

I wonder if you could get a silicone hose to go over the tb and this plastic intake. Question
Might have to shorten it slightly but if the seal was gone anyway it's not going to matter really. 2011 4.4tdv8 Vogue
