Klunking noise in the engine bay upon cold startup in my 4.2

I have a klunking sound coming from my engine bay upon cold startup in my 2007 l322 4.2 supercharged. It's really concerning me. I am looking to upload a video for people to hear asap. Please if anyone can advise or has had similar issue I would appreciate any guidance. [/i] Range Rover Vogue SE 2007 L322 4.2 Supercharged 121k. Engine rebuilt @ 120666 Miles

Upload it to YouTube and post a link?

Is it an occasional clunk? If so it could be supercharger is looose (mine was luckily) or bearings in it. Easiest think is to take the belt off it of this is the car and start it up idling to see if it goes? Current stable:

Mine sounds like a bit like that, it's got 227k miles on it so probably needs timing chains doing. I also think is has a slight misfire at idle on a cold start and I've read alot do that - Something to look into. As suggested above you should take off the supercharger belt then do a cold start and then take off the main aux belt and do the same. If the noise goes away that will tell you it's supercharger or ancilaries related rather than inside the engine.

see this thread : https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic53250.html

don't watch the first vid my mic wouldn't pic it up but the seconding sounds the same. You will see on mine the rear bolt when reinstalled cross threaded (and wasn't noticed) giving it about 5mm play. I took it all off thinking the charger was toast and before removing the charger I could rock it by hand making that noise. I recapped the thread and she purrs like a kitten now. If it isn't that its likely one one the bearings maybe even the one they can't replace as im pretty certain its a supercharger noise. Current stable:

as dan said above,

also tensioners can make a similar noise, as said above quickly drop the belt off, see if the noise continues.

if it continues pray to the bank god!!!

if it stops then its a process of elimination.

To me it sounds more of a plastic/polyethylene clunk type sound.

Check that the fan isn't touching or hitting the shroud and that the shroud is correctly fitted. Also check the fan itself and all pipes in that area are correctly fitted. Also check the fan viscous coupling.

Just to fuel this fire a little more it appears the noise goes away once the engine is warm. Go figure. Makes it even harder to solve. However all my tests have been whilst stationary.

Garage tomorrow are putting it on a car lift and removing under engine cover plates and trying to catch the noise before it disappears again.

I have sent the mechanic this forum link so he can review all your thoughts tonight. Thought it may help him out you lot seem pretty knowledgeable.

I will update this post as soon as the mechanic updates me. Smile Range Rover Vogue SE 2007 L322 4.2 Supercharged 121k. Engine rebuilt @ 120666 Miles

Let us know if they find anything. Going when warm suggests something warms up and gets back into tolerance, or oil gets somewhere and lubes it.

Did it make the noise before the oil change?
