"Initial look at the blower shows us that it’s overall looking fine, but that there is play in one of the rear bearings which is enough to cause knocking."

That's good. Did they do the snout rebuild Originally?

This was the original report a few months back.

"The supercharger has passed inspection, this means the core components are acceptable for rebuild.

The report highlighted that the rotor pack is in very good condition, the case bearings are badly worn leading to overheating on one of the rotor shafts. The snout appears to be fine, it’s not the quietest as it has age but it isn’t ready to fail. This would get replaced as a matter of coarse during a rebuild anyway. We did find that the coupler has a crack, it’s quite common to see a crack of about 3mm on the inner face that’s not a problem. Yours however has propagated through to the drive pin bores, further progression will be to the outer wall at which point it will fail. Great! Is this the second time they have rebuilt the supercharger or was the coupler the only thing replaced last time?

Its the second rebuild. To be fair to them they did the rebuild again all free of charge. I am just glad to get my car back and running

That's good news, but bad no test drive! I've very similar noises coming from mine so suspect will be doing the same soon.

i have a hose to replce on ours then i can test drive. the hose and car at work!!!!

so just to relay that my engine has been really quiet since the supercharger rebuild. The garage also renewed the warranty unfortunately coz we are in lockdown I still cant drive it to fully test. However on the positive the car is back together everything (soooo far) is looking and sounding good. Cant wait to get out for a proper long drive and see how she is. Appreciate all the pointers that you gave have messaged. I have just (pain on rust 15) POR'd my rear wheel arches for extra protection and in this current climate will be PORing my rear subframe as well. I’ve just bought a 2007 car that’s doing exactly the same thing so have a few questions I’m afraid!

Who was it that did the work on your Supercharger?
Did they give you a reason for that knocking noise?
What was the cost of the rebuild?

I’m quite happy to rebuild mine myself but want to make sure I get a kit with everything in it. Although, if it’s going to be a right pain in the arse of a job I’ll send them the whole unit.

Me again not wishing to comment on every post of yours but this clunking sound are you also having a rough idle or misfiring? I had the same issue when I had a dirty idle its almost like the supercharger was spinning nicely and then the brakes were ut on momentarily, effectively shaking it.when I sorted the running the issue disappeared, although I don't think it was this but did the s/c oil too... Current stable:
2006 BMW M6
2007 4.2 V8 S/C FF
Gone:
2002 4.4 V8 FF

After changing my coil, the car is idling perfectly thankfully.

The noise on mine is barely audible and is probably just me being incredibly picky but I like them to be just right. I'm hoping to get the belt off later this evening and check that it's not present with the charger disconnected to be sure.

Friskydog, is your supercharger still silent after the 2nd rebuild?

The noise on mine is identical to yours and I’m curious as to what was replaced the 2nd time around that wasn’t replaced on the original rebuild.

I’d like to do mine myself but need to make sure I get the right parts.
