Does anyone’s 4.4 TDV8 do this when warm?

My Weston is fine when cold but develops a ticking noise when warmed up. It appears to come from the drivers side area of the engine, but it’s hard to pinpoint. More toward the back perhaps. It’s not the FBH, it’s not needed here.

It’s not the AC, that’s recently been done.

I’ve done 10k so far and it’s not changed, no worse no better. No smoke, no warning lights.

I wondered it it was due to oil warming up and revealing a worn valve or something? Apart from that the engine is fine, no other issues or fault codes.

Yep, mine does it as well.
Seems to go after a few seconds, I thought it could be to with height vales, valve hub for suspension?
Doesn't seem to get any worse so I wasn't particularly bothered. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Listen to the throttle body. They strip their nylon gear and then click. Answer is to replace. A real DIY job. Part is not overly expensive. RR L322 TDV8 4.4 SE 2019 to present

Thanks, Sarchopperman - I dug out your post relating to this.

To me though, the symptoms do not match mine. This only happens when the car is running, is warmed up and is engine speed dependent.

To my knowledge, the EGR has no parts that would produce a constant 'tick tick tick' I think it's about 2 ticks per second. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior

I’ve attempted to demonstrate the ticking noise I’ve got. The link below is the cold engine at idle - no ticking.



The next link below is with the engine up to temperature after a drive, clearly audible is the ticking noise from the drivers side - back from the front and more like lower down under the car near the drivers wing? So weird.

when was the last time you changed transfer box oil? i get similar noise from TB that goes away when oil in the transfer case is changed. 2012 TDV8 Black Edition

Thanks nino, if I recall they were done by the last owner at approx 80k, the car has done 99k now. It’s an easy and cheap fix.
