This afternoon, whilst driving, I thought I'd try the heated steering wheel and drivers heated seat to see if they worked. Neither did, so I searched around the menus to seek if I'd accidentally pressed something that disabled them. I couldn't find anything obvious under Seats and Climate.

I turned the ignition off for about 5 minutes whilst waiting to pick up a passenger. Drove for 15 minutes and still no heated seats (drivers and front passengers) or heated steering wheel.

Parked up for just over an hour and both seats and wheel are now working again.

Was that a typical LR glitch? Or did I accidentally disable them? If the later, what did I press?

It’s one of two things:

1. Even after two years, I haven’t worked out the exact logic of it, but neither of them seems to come on if the car thinks that they’re not needed! I’ve not had an accidental roasting hot steering wheel since the days of the Disco (thank goodness!), although they’ve always worked when I’ve actually needed them. Could that possibly be it?

2. When the seat heating (or cooling, I can’t remember which it was now!) did genuinely not respond once, it was fixed by a software reflash / update. Did they update the infotainment software before sale? You’ll know if it’s early software as it’ll show a classic red phone box on the home screen.

As long as it works when you first get in and the car’s a bit chilly, then you’re probably okay

No classic red phone and I have Apple CarPlay. I requested that the software was updated and told it had been done.

The outside temperature hadn’t significantly changed over the period, maybe two degrees C at most.

If they're intermittently not coming on I'd check the battery... Maybe it was just running low at the time you tried. Steering wheel and heated seats are not related but the battery is a common denominator.

Don’t think this will apply to yours, but fwiw if your vehicle has the auxiliary stop start battery and you disable it by disconnecting the battery - it also disables the heated seats and heated steering wheel, ditto if the battery is low 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

It’s happened again a couple of times. Despite covering over 1,000 miles in the last 8 days, I suspect the battery. Reason being it was sitting at the dealers since April this year, when it was taken as a p/ex and when I bought it 9 days ago.

I think it disables them until battery charge hits a particular level...

Hopefully LRA will replace the battery for me.

They replaced both batteries on my D4 earlier in the year.

Awaiting the arrival of LRA.

Nowt wrong with battery and it’s charging okay. So it’s a bit of a mystery as to why the seats and wheel only seem to work on random occasions.
