There are quite a lot of straps on these. One of my straps on the exhaust looked similar to yours.

This one is the main Engine/Chassis strap on the RH side near the engine mounting.

Salt accelerated corrosion on the woven type straps. Can look good visually but disintegrate when pulled.

That's why I have fitted an additional 35mm² insulated earth strap from the engine/gearbox to the earth point on the top of the left strut turret. Always tend to on cars.

The braided ground strap is used to conduct high frequency electrical noise. High frequency in the megahertz or radio frequency range. High frequency current travels on the surface of a conductor. The so called skin current effect. The fibers in the braid have much more surface area than a stranded wire. 2007 L322 3.6 TDV8 Stornoway |

Braided engine earth straps absorb engine vibration better and therefore last longer than more solid ones which eventually fracture.

I use welding cable when I fit earth straps for the reasons above. |

I’m half way through replacing my alternator and found the very same today when the cr@p weather finally relented.

I seem to recall, but am not certain, that it bolts to the engine mounting (engine side of the mounting, obviously)..

You may be aware allready sorry but i just wanted to say that on the right hand side of the cooler you may well get some more oil than usual because the crankcase breather from the engine goes thru the right hand side turbo / cooler Dave 2010 3.6TDV8 Autobiography Bas remap, Egr deleted (blanked & via remap) , Cold air intake, Turbo back exhaust, Provent 200 catch can, Banks idash gauge, 275/55/R20 GAP Diagnostics Past - 02 & 03 TD6 And an 1984 Classic |
