Battery charger

Here is a topical one as it is snowing outside

What battery charger have you got, and how do you rate it?
I have an electronic one and an old fashioned Bradex (30+ years old) with an ammeter, and I prefer the old one as at least I can see what the battery is doing

But I'm interested if there are any outstanding chargers out there...….

Best wishes

Permanently installed DEFA 5A charger. Gives you a small socket in the front to connect the mains.

CTEK MXS10 - tried all the rest including the MXS5 and the 10 is more than capable of doing the job on the TD6 Smile

My Ctek 5.0 works eventually but seems to struggle with the AGM battery. A full charge takes a long time whereas it can recover most other normal batteries overnight no matter how goosed they are.

Aldi.

Keeping it topped up OK, takes quite a while if battery is at low charge. Cheers

Whenever I go on holiday I leave my CTEK 5 connected via the towing socket. It takes seconds.

That looks like a nice bit of kit Mike!

I use the Lidl one. It's not quick if you have a flat battery but great for keeping it topped up.

I left mine on for a couple of days before attempting to start the car after returning from a 2 week holiday.

The DEFA socket is a bit sleeker.

Has anyone monitored the battery voltage on a 4.4 tdV8 AGM battery whilst it is on long term trickle charge? I connected my CTEK 5 on Friday lunch time and noted it was 12.4v before switching on the charger and then 12.8v after a few minutes.
It was up to 13.2v by Saturday morning, but because I was not using the car Saturday I just left it.
It is now showing 13.8v (Sunday lunch time) so 48hours later.
The battery is 6 months old, but I am a bit surprised it took so long to get to what I presume is now fully charged. ?
