L405 Coolant Leak From In Front Of The Rear Wheel.

A quick heads up for all the 405 owners out there. I have found a water leak on my 2013/14 L405 AB and unusually its from in front of the UK drivers side REAR wheel! Im guessing they run to rear passengers heating? Maybe?

The black metal thing in these pics is the fuel tank protector.

Removing the very rusty metal securing tab/bracket, then the rubber coating i found it was leaking from a pinhole size hole/maybe a crack, maybe from the rusty bracket? 10mm away from the end where the rubber pipe/hose connects... JLR MD wanted nearly a grand to remove the rear subframe/cradle and replace (just that 18" aluminium pipe) Shocked Sniggering Thud

So, i simply replaced the rubber pipe/hose (on the right in the pics) with a piece 30mm longer and cut the ali pipe back 20mm so beyond the crack/pinhole and fitted the new/longer rubber pipe/hose... Happy days, no more leak!

For anyone following "MY NEW CAR" thread? Yes i have JLR warranty and for some reason "beyond my understanding" the warranty refused to replace this pipe! Shocked Rolling Eyes Yawn Worryingly the JLR MD's were happy for me to collect my car and drive the car away loosing coolant (quite rapidly too)

I have however complained to JLR CC so we will see what comes of that?

I’m told the Land Rover Approved Used warranty only covers ‘sudden’ mechanical failure. Corrosion is not not considered a sudden failure. This may be the same for other manufactures too, but I find it difficult to accept that on a £100k off road vehicle this level of corrosion exists after 4 years. Current MY2020

Yet they Okay'd the replacement of the front suspension struts/air springs without question? Cost wise, I'm very glad they did, obviously! But i cannot understand it...

Agreed, there is no consistency.

I’ve decided to sell my L405, I intended to purchase a newer MY17 FFRR, but now moving away from the brand. Such a shame but I am not happy with their after sales and never felt a valued customer. Current MY2020

What you need to do is to find a local indy specialist that can fix all these little niggles for you...

I'm sure there must be someone close to you?

I think I have seen this mentioned elsewhere also but ours has also sprung the same leak.. future common issue?

We have been chasing down a mystery coolant leak for some time, passed a overnight pressure test at the dealership etc. Sold - Bell a 2015 MY16 Loire Blue Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

I think you may have found the issue there.

There are a few LR specialists round here, infield4x4 are one down near Coalville who may be able to help. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

It’s under Approved Used so went into the main dealer for the work, usually I’d just have used a piece of pipe myself.

Notice what’s missing from the new pipe… Rolling Eyes

Rear diff was leaking from the pinion seal, so they had that out as well. Sold - Bell a 2015 MY16 Loire Blue Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

That was going to be my next statement! They left off the offending clip!

But how is it now secured to the car?

The pipe without the clip looks like it’s just a sheath? it’s a different diameter to the ally pipe. 2011 (MY12) 4.4 TDV8 Vogue
