Australia 2012 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Bournville

The MAF sensors are in the airbox and they both have the same part number LR029074.

I had an earlier look for the sensor in the I/C outlet to throttle housing pipe which could be a temperature sensor but didn't find it so will investigate further.

Edit. The sensor only has 2 wires to it so really can only be a temperature sensor.

My copy of Microcat 2012 does not show the sensor nor does it show what also appears to be a sensor in the same spot for the 2013 L405 4.4 TDV8 - an oversight I suspect.

Thanks for clearing that up for us. My mistake. Embarassed I'll alter the Wiki to rename the sensor I'd identified as the MAF. If I find any further info I'll post.

When I changed the plenum hoses two days ago the sensor wrongly marked up as MAF was quite contaminated with a coating of oil, so benefited from a clean.

The sensor isn't on the microcat copy I found, but the housing it sits in is, go figure. Cheers

Oil wont cause a sensor to misread whereas a MAP sensor blocked by carbon caused by oil + exhaust gas can cause the sensor to misread.

Yep my MAP sensor was rather blocked and contaminated as you suggest.

It did appear after a clean a week or so ago prior to the hose change, that it improved the pull away from standing, becoming smoother, for want of a longer description. Cheers

MAP is in the doughnut and MAF is in the main intercooler feed hose....that’s how I remember it Thumbs Up Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Whilst the 2012 version of Microcat doesn't show the sensor in the I/C to throttle body hose, the wiring schematic shows the sensor as Sensor - Temperature - Air Charge. as I expected.

Thanks Graeme

Guess you beat me to it. I was just going to post that Dan at Duckworths does not know its purpose, but that it is shown as part of the assembly CAC to intake manifold assembly. Doesn't appear to come as a separate sensor and when cleaning mine it looked as if the sensor could be fixed rather than removable.
So I'd go for something to do with measuring the air inlet temperature to allow a comparison between air flow mass, manifold absolute pressure and fuelling
By the way MAF sensors on the air boxes work out at £364 a pair. Cheers

Thanks Rjff. It sounds as though the sensor is bonded in place which would explain why it isn't listed in Microcat.

The sensor is air temperature/density sensor and is a part of hose that attaches to the throttle body.
here is nice video of the part.

Thanks Nino Thumbs Up

Dan sent me some pictures of this, so it looks like we are supposed to buy the whole assembly if needed. Cheers

Pulled mine out yesterday and it was also covered in dry soot , quick blast with brake cleaner , leave to dry and back in , can't report on how it drives as the other half is using it but she's off for a long drive down to Minehead at the weekend so I'll reset the trip and see if it makes any diff to fuel usage .

Spent this afternoon doing this cleaning. The doughnut manifold comes out quite easily if you remove the large cabin air filter section at the bottom of the windscreen - it's only held on with 2 nuts.
There was a lot of oily carbon deposits in the manifold.

I've been reading (elsewhere)you shouldn't use brake cleaner on MAF/Ps
Read through this and seems most do though.

Thoughts? Cheers, Greg
