Rave has two sections on removing the oil sump gasket, the overhaul section and the repair section but the diff is only mentioned in one of them and not when you view the oil pump removal.

I have been some of the way there in replacing the front out cv joints and all the suspension arms and struts. It is a place for long breaker bars. The front driveshafts pop out the front diff so not much left after that. You could try and see if you can tension the chain from just removing the lower sump plate but from memory I couldn't see anything.

i think i remember reading that some where.
Decided not to bother with the oil pump chain, I would be dead by the time I got it done.
I think I read somewhere that it needs 5mm movement each side of center, so its not to bad.

I have two engines in my garage now in bits, just for fun.

i would like to see an engine in bits, makes it much easier to know what you are doing, especially when you are looking for oil leaks
I started working on assembling this yesterday, wasn’t on it lot long, was surprised how much I got done.
Today I had a good run too, just hoping no one will ring me up for some thing
I read up about assembling the engine months ago, seeing a lot of bolts are 10/17nm and 30nm I decided to buy a couple of new torque wrenches to do the job
I bought a good brand, wanted dual purpose for the left hand threads
Well it says they are dual porpoise, its dual porpoise only on the ratchet, not the torque wrench part, so I wasted over $200 there.
Tomorrow is another day, we will see how we go RR 2005 4.4 petrol

One of my torque wrenches, you can push the square drive through to the other side and then reverse the rather direction and it works I think from memory. I always test it on a low setting with the square drive in the vice.

Turn vanos shaft counter clockwise until end adjustment position (vanos turning tool & 24mm
socket 1/2" / 1/2" ratchet).
Caution: Do not place notable pressure on vanos turning tool as pins will break.
Ohm meter will display 0 ohm when vanos at fully retarded position.
Note: Vanos internal piston will connect with vanos test pins when fully retarded and cause a short

As long as the vanos is fully rotated anti clockwise then you will be ok, mine wouldn’t beep on the continuity test when I rebuilt the engine but did when I stripped it down again later. Once it was done up I turned the engine two turns and locked it up again and put all the locking tools back in place and rechecked it. Are you following the beisan procedure?

i was but i went to the rave instructions while fitting the timing chain and guides
i have just fitted the lower timing chain cover
i intend to go back to the beisan instructions now
i cant believe how easy it is going back together
hope i haven't said that to soon
i am on here looking for the timing cover tensions
the bolt tensions on the timing chain guides says 10nm in two locations and 17nm in an other
i went for the 10nm
i imagine the same size bolts on the cover will be the same RR 2005 4.4 petrol

the two upper timing chain covers are no lining up properly, i am unable to fit the seals that fit around the vanos solenoids RR 2005 4.4 petrol
