You did speak too soon!
Did you use the cam covers with doubled up washers to force the upper timing covers down and to compress the seal between the upper and lower timing covers ? That part is in the beisan procedure.

The lower timing chain cover lines up on dowel / roll pins and the upper timing cover should line up with the lower timing cover.

hi again
i took the cover off again, refitted it but before i tightened it home, i fitted the seal and then tightened it down.
i think its a better fit now than the other side.
i went to fit the oil pick up pipe/strainer and wasn't very happy with it so i made a broach and pressed up a new screen.
so the sump plate is on.
its pretty hot over here, up to 42 some days, i used to love the heat but now it just saps me, so i hide inside some times, not getting much done.
bought the oil to day, Castrol Edge 5W-30 on special 50%discunt

Good news, you will get there.

when i took the injector wires off the injectors, the clips are very difficult to remove and one of them was missing
these clips, apparently, are not sold as a spare part RR 2005 4.4 petrol

The clips are not sold separately, and they need to be there but you may be able to pick up a connector off of something else as they will be a standard.
The way I get mine off and on is to place your hands either end of the black plastic injector wiring box and with a 1,2,3 yank, they all come off together . To put back on I make sure they are all lined up and give them a sharp push and they all pop back on . Has always worked for me. With one wire clip missing you will probably be ok but better to have it .
Not saying this is the one but google injector connector and then just pinch the wire clip off it

I got a clip, BMW came to the rescue
I gave it a crank and it started immediately, oil pressure 50+
Only ran it for a couple of seconds, no water
New radiator should be here end of the week then I will be able to run it properly
At long last RR 2005 4.4 petrol

Good work, Coolant is the green / blue type rather than the pink, how much difference that makes I'm not sure but i have always run Motul INUGEL EXPERT ULTRA Concentrated Antifreeze in mine.

That must feel good to be wear your are at last.
I would expect some rattles as it starts to fill up the various hydraulic units

"I would expect some rattles as it starts to fill up the various hydraulic units"
its about eighteen month since i pulled the engine down so things would be pretty dry.
so i filled the sump with oil through the hole where the oil pressure switch fits and i primed the oil pump from the oil filter pipe RR 2005 4.4 petrol

Early on in the piece I read Haylands post about thermostats, I decided to go for the BMW one.
I also read, it was a good idea to change the radiator pressure cap to 140kpa
Mine had a 200
I bought one on ebay, I then read that the ones on ebay weren’t reliable as far as the pressure was concerned.
I made up a fitting to test the 140kpa rad cap, it cracks at 160kpa
My radiator arrived on Friday but no one was home, so now its Monday
I ordered a thermostat on ebay, I put the BMW part number in, up came a thermostat and I purchased it, now I think I have ordered the wrong one RR 2005 4.4 petrol
