burning smell

hello gents i am hoping someone can help with a new problem that has come up , when i put my foot down i get a nasty burning smell and some lack in throttle if i put it in sport mode i get very little throttle,a burning smell and a noise from the underside . when driving in a relaxed way there is no problem ... my first thought is the clutch

Unless you have a very rare fattie indeed there is no clutch as it’s automatic.

Could be an oil leak onto the exhaust and the extra heat from nailing it has caused the smell. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I would be inclined to go for a drive to get it to happen, stick it on max height, and have a crawl and sniff, see if you can narrow it down that way to at least a general location.

Does it change gear OK ?

One other thought, if it's a 3.6 turbo could it be the variable vane actuators ?
No idea if you can get to it, but would be worth checking the linkage moves OK.
Sorry, not sure what age / engine you have. Too many toys, not enough time

its a 06 , 4.2 sc its not just the smell i also lose power with a clater sort of noise which is much worse if i put it into sport mode ,could it be the cat . i am not sure if the cat would smell when i put my foot down but the sound seems to be from that area , cheers rob

Since it is Supercharged I would therefore suggest you have a good look at the drive belt.

Aside from that you need to get it to smell, immediately stop and do the sniff test.

It could be something touching the exhaust under heavy load like the lambda sensor wiring (could alter the fueling).

Main concern would be the gearbox Crying or Very sad

It sounds like your going to have fun finding this Neutral Too many toys, not enough time

Clattery noise , lack of power and burning smell are not good combinations but I would expect some codes if transmission related.
I think I had blocked cats and it felt like I had excessive engine braking and a general feeling of holding back.
