Yes Graeme I've ordered the tool.

It's not crystal clear but the JLR looks 12 pointed in the WM:

Yes, too many points to be a 6-point. |

As the sensor has been revised, hopefully it won't ever need replacing again so you could sell the tool especially being a 6-point that is unlikely to get damaged. I suspect that I'll be replacing mine's sensor and the tool would be coming from the UK, possibly with a sensor in the same package to save on postage. |

I'd like to know if mine's single EGT sensor is used as a safeguard against excessive manifold temperatures if another sensor reads incorrectly yet is still within acceptable bounds. I intend eventually to get EGR mapped out so pre and post cooler temps purely for EGR control wont be required. In the meantime though, a non-operational sensor could possibly lead to more or less carbon build-up in the air intake. If the EGR inlet temp's default value of 100 deg is taken as gospel then the EGR cooler bypass valve will always be open, but IIDtool live value logging should reveal the valve's status. |

Hi Mike, well yes I know - the regen process is working well both Active and Passive, proven in the past week.
...and similar on quite a few posts: A bit more trawling through the forum shows a different error relating to EGR temp sensor B and I now think B is on the EGR itself. The lack of identification in the workshop manual means ambiguity (at least outside of LR dealerships is) about which sensor is which - sensor A which I believe is on the manifold, nowhere near the EGR vs sensor B, may well have led many to replace the wrong sensor, and then have the error return. Without knowing the manifold sensor is even part of the EGR calculations and being nowhere near the EGR, you get an error saying EGR sensor A fault. So you change the EGR sensor on the EGR. And the fault returns. I think may have done this, or their mechanics and this has fuelled the 'they all do that' thinking. I also agree with Graeme that an incorrectly controlled EGR = soot, wrong fuel/air mix etc. The part number for that sensor has been updated suggesting an improvement has been made to the sensor. If I wasn't having any other symptoms I'd definitely leave it. But my fast-filling DPF is a right PITA. On the other hand, if your DPF isn't giving you trouble, you may be fine to just leave it. . Patrick @ Gap advised that their tool has the complete live value list implemented by LR.

BTW I'd be interested in knowing what 2F means.

The wiring for the EGR inlet temperature sensor is on the engine as is the wiring for the EGR outlet temperature sensor, so another indication that the sensor is the one in the manifold. |

Mine's EGR cooler bypass valve opens and closes depending on throttle usage once the engine warms so presumably is not affected by the failed EGR temp sensor. |
