Germany 2017 Range Rover Vogue SDV8 Carpathian Grey

@knares, did change only the four seals from the two VANOS, today closed the underbody of engine and made setting Timing chain times. Will see in some weeks when ready, is an old 540i Protection for privat use....

Australia 2005 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Zambezi Silver

Received the last of the parts I ordered to day, still got some parts to order but they are not holding me up as of now.
When I ordered the vanos kit, it came with a number of seals
“Note: Seals kit incorporates
4 x engine top cover bolt shaft O-ring,
2 x secondary air pipe end O-ring,
2 x camshaft chain tensioner O-ring.”
So, my question is
What is the
engine top cover bolt shaft
and
secondary air pipe

The top cover o rings sit around the little aluminum inserts that go into the plastic cover on each cam cover, total waste of time and an anticlimax when i found out what they are for.

The SAI is another wonderfully useless invention that pumps extra air into the engine for a short time at start up think for something o do with emissions somewhere, so important, i don't even have one to get in my way and if you are lucky, you won't have either.

Engine starts and runs smoothly, puh..., what a kind of work. Important is the correct tool kit, and the 4 "Nockenwellen" must have the upside position that you can read A E. Next time I can make this repair in half the time. L405 SDV8 2017 + Lancia Flavia Coupe 1964 + RRS L494 3.0 SDV6 + C220CDI Convertible 2021

I've got mine apart again...
I have had a tapping noise on and off for a while which goes away mostly if I give it some lively driving which i think is the hydraulic lifters. It's already had all the timing chains and guides and new main tensioner but the cam chain tensioners i just replaced the seal so i am going to renew them and this time i am going to take the cams and lifters out to see what i can find.
All good fun, I am down to the cam removal stage.

Hi
If you mean the tensioners for the top chains, I did the same
I renewed the O ring in the non return valve for the vanos, which I had to buy separately.
I don’t seem to be able to find a place to buy the O ring seals it a kit.
I haven’t tried BMW as yet RR 2005 4.4 petrol

Well, no progress on this of late
Weather being cold and wet, although it is under cover, just, and other things to do.
I keep thinking about the oil pump chain, it would have done the same work as the other chains and it is quite slack.
I intend to go north with this and my caravan when this is going and I don’t want to be thinking about the chain when I am 2000km from home.
What’s involved in doing the oil pump chain?
I have googled it and when that question is answered, ever one goes around the answer RR 2005 4.4 petrol

Mine is still knocking and I have since bought another engine to strip down but the upper sump and oil was removed.
Check in Rave but I think the lower and upper sump has to be removed to tighten it on a RR which means front diff removal . The engine fitted in the BMW cars don’t have that so you can tighten the chain by just removing the lower sump. Download Rave and check it out as I might forget before morning

i have looked in rave but could not find any thing
i did find a Section, replacing the oil pump, but no mention about removing the upper sump and the picture they have of the sump looks like it would be off a BMW RR 2005 4.4 petrol

I think in Rave it mentions removing the sump gasket but it leads you off to look at other sections but I think it is missing removing the diff and or driveshafts. I’ll check when I’m back. My oil pump chain was a little loose but my hands were too full to work out if I could tension it from below.
I have bought an old engine to strip down and play with, it has 7 damaged bores so plenty to keep me busy.
