Resistors to slow flash on LED 2010 lights

After many months i have decided its time to sort my double speed flashing lights on my 2010 conversion facelift. Bought a wiring kit of an extremely unhelpful bloke that should be correct for my car (2002 4.4 vogue) and after a couple of attempts am thinking about taking it to a professional.

In theory the resistors should wire between the earth and the live for the indicator at the front but this does nothing? Simples, but it still flashs twice as fast. Is there a different way to wire resistors anddoes the fact i have not fitted the back kit mean this is why they are flashing twice as fast?

On a nother note does anyone know what the five wires do by colour on the back light connector block? as i need to wire into these and have sold my lights so am unsure which to cut to wire resistors in the back?

Any help appreciated.

sounds like you might have the wrong resistors wired in nick, are they 25 watt ones? ... - .- -.

Think they are 50 if i remember correctly. Came as a kit. I even tried wiring the front ind bulbs back in line and these just flashed twice as quickly as well as the led ones. Not tackled back kit yet.

lost heart in the car a little so not done much over last couple of months but enjoying again now. My air suspension problems seem to have gone (they were driving me nuts) with fitting 2 new tyres. One tyre was in very bad condition on inside sidewall and wonderering whether the vibration was throwing something out. shouldn't speak to soon but drive is smooth and best since i've had it (even with 24's) Wink

All front leds work as they should just the indicators a bit enthusiastic!!

if you have a resistor on each indicator , i just wonder if one is faulty and causes the double flash. ... - .- -.

When i've fitted resistors, they have been wired in line with the +ive. Not across the -ive & +ive. Ian

the resistors have to be wired in parallel as if its another bulb ..this is supposed to 'fool' the ecu into thinking there is a normal bulb there... ... - .- -.

That makes more sense to me, but the wiring diagram supplied definatly says to go across the 2 and iv'e googled fitting resistors and the posts that came up suggest wiring accross the two aswell?

Yep series not parallel.

Careful where you put them to, they can get toasty! 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

i've put two resisters on my fogs [which i aint got now , dont ask Rolling Eyes ] and they were wired as if they were a bulb and i get no error messages now.. ... - .- -.

So, you reckon wiring in 'series' ( in line, in the positive) may work??

this is contracdictory to the wiring diagram but might be worth a go. http://www.matstrad.com/resistors_tech.php

My only question would be i wired the orig bulb in line eg positive and negative and both orig bulb and led indicator still flashed twice as quick?? In my eyes puuting the orig bulb should of rectified it?

Its all done with smoke and mirrors. Nothing to be lost in giving it a try. Putting the resistors in the way you have will actually drop the voltage across the bulb as some of the voltage will go to earth via the resistor creating heat.

Putting it in line will have the same effect as being a bulb... because a common garden bulb has a higher resistance than a LED... so by putting it in line you are keeping the voltages and current consumed the same or as close to as possible to the origional resisitance, which is what the cars systems check for to show a bulb failure.

Think of it as two hoses.. water will go through the one offering least resistance... your LED with the way you have currently wired them... then think of two narrow hoses joined together.. the water has no choice.

The only reason I can think you would want to wire them up as yo iniitally describe is if you wanted to drop the voltage at the LED.. i.e. they aren't 12 volts .. in which case they may go ping and let the magic smoke out. Dilema! Check the voltages on them first. 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

I think i got a bit lost then in the smoke and the mirrors Smile

The indicators are within original spec 2010 range rover headlight units so would of been receiving 12v.

Presumably it is suggested they are wired parrallel to drop the voltage to prevent bulb warnings??

So the concensus seems wire them in series and see what happens?
