United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Stornoway Grey

Sun was shining today as the postie arrived with my Viton O rings, so i thought i may as well do the job right away.
I allowed an hour to do the job and i did it in around 40 minutes by the time i had been asked what was wrong with it by 3 neighbours,

I read this thread from start to finish and pretty much every aspect of this job has been covered.
My own tip though....instead of taping the first groove i cut the back one out and replaced it leaving the old first seal in place and sliding the new one past it

The other thing i havent seen mention of is just how brittle the seals get, mine were almost hard plastic like and i could snap them easily...no wonder they leaked, my car has only around 67,000 on the clock

The hardest part, i found was lining the holes up and getting the bolt back in ...
Anyhow, i took the car for a run and searched for leaks after and i couldnt find any, illl check again next week to be on the safe side.
I had a good look around the oil cooler and looks like mine is OK with no sign of a leak
I took a few pics although most of them will have been seen on other posts.
Cheers
Mike

Is there enough play in that pipe once it’s pulled off to fiddle with the o rings. I intend to do the oil cooler gaskets too which I will need to remove the air intake donut thing off. I’ve not seen any instructions for removal on the 4.4 tdv8. 2011 RR Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

Once the pipe is out you can lift it into an easy access position, maybe theres about 4or 5 inches of play...

Viton is supposed to have been designed to work at much higher temperatures, so hopefully the replacements will last much longer before they become hard brittle.

Cheers Kinger. Do you clean up the bell housing? Im thinking brake cleaner might do the job. I get a horrible smell of hot oil through the air vents at the moment, unless I hit the air recirculation button. 2011 RR Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

I didn’t clean anything other than the oil cooler assembly when I was doing the gaskets. It tend to collect more in the vee of the engine, so it’s taken about 3 weeks of burning the oil off and going up some steep hills to get rid of it. Or you could try sucking it out the vee while it’s apart if you have an oil sucker? Chris

Think I’m going to go for a chassis wash. Still smoking and stinking. Cleaned it up best I could when it was apart. I just hope it’s not still leaking. 2011 RR Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

Any idea why they change the oil feed pipe as well? Is it because the o rings don’t come separately or do they think there’s a leak on the pipe? Chris

the oil pipe can leak as well as the oil cooler...its easier for the dealer to replace the oil pipe than mess about with 'O' rings... ... - .- -.
