Idle speed and Vibration

My SDV8 seems very vibey at idle, whether in neutral or held in drive. I can feel a vibration through the steering wheel, pedals and centre console.

Is this normal?

Also, what's the normal idle revs for this engine? Mine is roughly 630 rpm 2019 L405 SDV8 Autobiography

Idle speed seems a bit low to me.

I'm no expert that particular engine but I'm sure it should be around 200rpm higher.

If so, then that will be the cause of your vibration.

Buz,
I have the same engine, but in a 322,: ticks over at 750rpm with absolutely no vibration, if that helps any.

Idle speed is too low - vibration won't be doing the engine any good either.

Would say around 700/750 is where you want to be. We had the same in a big 6 Cykinder Tractor - 50 rpm up made a massive difference / plus keeps the oil pressure up and alternator charging 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

My idles at 680 rpm, steady and no vibracion. I do use 1/2 L of 2T oil every fourth tank of fuel. I think you would be pleasantly surprised by the difference a bit of 2T oil makes. Smile

Blimey is your Diesel so poor quality you need to add oil to it? I'd be very careful adding oil to a modern Diesel in case it ruins the DPF or any of the other emmission systems and results in fault codes/ the engine management light coming on, reduced performances and significant repair costs.

Case in point being another Land Rover in the family - don't ask! 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17
