The dredded oil cooler leak !!!

So after noticing a few spots of oil on the drive , i put the full fat into the LR specialists and they confirmed its leaking from the oil cooler.
Good news tho its covered by the RAC warranty on the car Smile so i am gonna get a new oil cooler fitted at the same time. And while its there its having an inspection 2 service also.
Looking forward to getting her back .
Bring on the winter.

(4.4 tdv8)

My oil cooler leak turned out to be the gasket between the oil and coolant in the cooler, and cost me around £15.

If your dealer is replacing the whole unit, then the cost is likely to be the guts of a grand!

Lucky you have a warranty! Thumbs Up

Mike

Yep, another forum member has been quoted £947 to replace the oil cooler and flush the coolant system.

I was quoted around £340 just for the replacement cooler since I was replacing it myself, so if you got yours for £326 all inclusive, then you got a bargain Thumbs Up

However, the failed gasket was only £15.......so I didn't need to replace the whole cooler.

**UPDATE**

So a couple of weeks on from a replacement oil cooler and inspection 2 done on my RR.
I notice over the weekend the car is leaving small amounts of oil on the driveway again, so back to the rr speclist today.
Undertray removed, lots of oil on it however they cannot see where it is coming from. The bell housing is dry and no signs of oil from the oil cooler, so its a bit of a mystery , they cleaned it off and took it for a test drive then back on the ramp . No sign of anything.

So the plan is to watch the driveway for signs of oil and if it starts again back in for further investigations.
Lets hope its nothing. Confused Confused

Gumball, had the same thing go on mine replaced under warranty, but from memory it was about £800 all in.
With regards to the continuing oil spots, I was told when mine went that a quantity of oil could go int the V before it starts to run down the back!
If your man from RAC didn't get all the spill out, it could be that??? 2006 RR sport HSE

Oil leaking

Hi, I had mine done at the stealers £947 took it back after a week with oil still spotting the driveway, they dropped the undertray and showed me it was just residual oil still coming down from the bell housing. I took the car to an IOM soft wash after another week and had under chassis wash which has cleaned it all up now.

Have you checked the coolant tank to make sure that oil did not get into the system and that it was flush properly, the stealers took 3 days to get mine clear.
