Turned 200000kms!!!

Had the front brakes apart today, due to annoying squealing at low speeds (when braking).

Everything working as it should, even wear on both sides with both wheels, plenty of pad, discs looking fine.

Followed this video, and used some AUDI brake grease (came with OEM Audi brake parts) on all the metal contact surfaces after a good cleanup. Couldn't undo the carrier bolts (16mm) this time around, they were in there tight, I'll have another go when I get a bit more ground clearance one day, to get good leverage.

Now to see if it has sorted the squealing




EDIT after a prolonged test drive, all quiet on the braking front  .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

I’m in the process of doing a front wheel bearing and just to give you a heads up those 16 mm carrier bolts are a real pain.

I lost half a day trying to get them out I broke several sockets of different size and quality.

In the end was a dewalt nut gun and an impact socket to shift them.

Front drivers side driveshaft out, disassembled, cleaned and refitted with new rubber boots along with a new lower arm. All for an MOT tomorrow ....

however, during the process, broke the drop link ball joint .... aaaahhh! cue a mad dash for a new one ... all fitted and back together now.

Well, washed it , hoovered it, popped the bonnet and topped everything up. Drive to the mot station, parked, noticed leaves stuck in the drain areas at the bottom of the windscreen, popped the bonnet .....

Bonnet cable snapped .... Aaaahhhhhh.

Had to sheepishly admit the issue. The guy was brand new and said of wee can get it popped open be would test it and then let me go home with it to fix it later .

I hope it passes! V8 or else ...

Finally put the lettering on the boot and reattached the strip above the number plate!

Completely emptied the boot and put rear seats down. Headed over to Ripon and picked up four 20 inch rims with tyres. With them and my gardening equipment then headed over to Pickering. Next day off to Hull then back to Merseyside. Wasnt struggling to unload them before running around today as I only got back late and went out early so said tyres got a ride to Birkenhead then up to Preston and back to St Helens. They've done nearly 500 miles and havent touched the floor yet

So. It failed its MOT. One of the bolts holding a rear brake caliper was missing ... I thought the clicking sound was the pads rattling !!! oops. A mad dash for a spare bolt and its now sorted.


And to add insult to injury today, I tried re-syncing keys to the car. I'm now in a state where one key unlocks, but wont start engine, and the other wont unlock but will start the engine. I need 2 keys to drive my car now!!!!

Old wheels off and new wheels on today. What a bargain for £760 ! Old wheels now washed, wrapped and awaiting collection. They are off to a FFRR owner in Sweden.

Collected car from being undersealed with Dinitrol. Fitted rear mud flaps. Fitting kit missing from front mudflaps so I think I'll just wash it now.

Fixed my adaptive dynamics fault. Love a quick fix - all I did was push the grommet back in.
Interestingly, this stops any special programs from working. All good now.

2011 Vogue SE 4.4 with lots of toys in Stornaway

I have had a really annoying trim vibration on mine since getting it, it has come from the passenger seat somewhere, if I push the armrest hard it stops, if I push the headrest hard it stops, but no amount of pushing clothes into areas to try and pad it out has stopped the annoying noise over certain surfaces.

Suddenly thought today that maybe it sounded like a spring, I lifted the seat up 1/2" and the noise has gone, it is now nearly a silent cabin! Whooohaa!

I guess the spring has got older and at the lowest setting it is no longer tight enough to not vibrate too much.



So, the only noise left is the slight rear diff whine. Porsche 911 (996)
