I blocked EGR but for only a very short time because of severe driveability issues. Next time I'll try removing the throttle butterfly at the same time. I considered that the butterfly was being closed attempting to increase EGR because the MAP sensor probably showed excessive airflow. The lack of fault codes indicates it's worth a 2nd try.

Thanks Graeme,
Wonder what the inlet tract looks like when the MAP was so dirty?
When I did a EGR blank on my D3 I removed the butterfly.Where did you buy the blank kit for the RR?
I use the car mainly for long trips, not much city driving.Don't the EGR's operate mainly in city driving?
Regards,

Here's what my MAP sensor looks like on the 3.6 TDV8. After 265,000 km it's not too bad. But I have disabled the EGRs and put a couple of doses of induction cleaner through which probably made a difference. I checked the MAFs last night, and both were pretty clean.

I gave them both a hit with contact cleaner anyway.

Nino-Nino,
Did you clean it out?
After I blanked the EGR's out on the D3 the MAP stayed clean.rar110 I think that will explain your clean MAP.The MAF gets clean air from the aircleaner and should stay fairly clean.

I should add the 3.6 has two MAP sensors. They looked the same.

Also here is an indication of what my intake looks like despite induction cleaner.

Finally it could be worse. The next photo is taken by another member here of his intake before he cleaned it up. I'm not sure the two pics are of the same location.

There was a bit of grime on the MAFs but not too bad. ______________________________

rar110 at least your intake is dry, maybe indicating what rubbish is seen is what stayed behind when the cleaner was put trough. The other example looks like exhaust rubbish and is very clogged!!
Will have to take a look at mine!

Here's another pic. It was oily under the surface.

yes i did clean throttle body and plastic air plenum. My car was at 85K km when the picture was taken and i am at 156K km now, so time for another cleaning job.
so if GraemeS can come up with EGR solution that would be excellent.

I did a cleanup when I was replacing the oil cooler gaskets like Nino.

It's a hell of a messy job, but the best thing I found for cleaning the sooty crap out was spray brake cleaner.

With the plenum chamber off, you can get right inside to clean it out.......it also means you don't have to touch the sensor risking damage.

Stan - the MAP sensor will be visible on the chamber when you remove the engine cover.

Mike
