United Kingdom 2003 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black

I serviced the LPG today, with new filters. It was a pretty easy job except removing the snap rings holding the gas filter together. I do have some snap ring pliers, but they are for smaller ones really. Still, got there in the end - to find that one of the crimped hose ends on the low pressure side was leaking when moved. The crimped hose clip had failed, such that I could rotate the hose easily by hand. Chopped the end off and replaced with a Jubilee clip and all is good!

Next weekend - spark plugs.

Well, I still haven't done the spark plugs. First MOT tomorrow and am nervous! One headlight is a little reluctant to start and the handbrake is a bit weak, but we'll see. The same place does alignment so I'm getting that done too.

Just had a call... and....

FAIL.

On an indicator side repeater! Asked them to change the bulb since it's trivial, they have the car and I need it. They're also doing a 4-wheel alignment, and say it needs 5 adjustments at £15 per adjustment. Seems OK, and I hope it will improve the drive.

More later...

I have an MOT, and the 4 wheel alignment has definitely made tight corners ore comfortable. Can't wait to get it above, er, 60 or so and see if the slight shimmy has gone.

Any my steering wheel is straight! OCD is happy!

The slightly off steering wheel that you got used to is now straight, now you have to get used to that! The driving pleasure is enhanced, hope the shimmy has gone.

Just a follow up... the wheel was still slightly off, and I'd had a slow tyre leak diagnosed as a leak at the rim. But, after the alignment I started getting a 'clonk" on some uneven tarmac. Took it back yesterday, diagnosed a knackered track rod end and noticed that they'd actually fixed the leak on a wheel that didn't have a leak!

Got a Lemforder end from ECP, took it in and got it back this afternoon with steering wheel straight, no clonking, and they'd road tested it and balanced the front wheels too which were "way out".

Smooth as silk now!

Well done to Stevenage Tyres - took 2 hours, only charged me for 1, one suspension adjustment for the new track rod end and some wheel weights.

Please God let that me it for now!

Don't be silly... plenty more is waiting, just waiting for that time you think, this car is going really nice now, then

BONG Pete

No bong today. Well, key battery low, but it's kind of new. However, after having a kangarooing fit yesterday while running on petrol (OK on LPG) it wouldn't start this morning. No codes.

I'm guessing fuel pump - yes, I checked the fuse and swapped the relay. Trailered to Aylmer as I don't have time to look and I'm away on business for a few days.

Bah. Bloody thing.

May be only the saddle tank pump - do u have more than 1/4 tank of fuel in?

Also isn't there a way to"hard start" on lpg whilst engine is below the switchover temp?

Confirmed as the in-tank pump. I don't have the time to apply the lower cost fix of an X5 pump, so will just have to swallow the cost. BRC system has ho way to force an LPG start that I can see.

Today's fun. I'd noticed that the brake dust shield on the nearside was a bit rattly when I changed the strut. So today I popped the wheel off, removed the caliper, removed the disk and bolted the shield back on with some penny washers. Very easy job, helped by the recent disc/pad change so all bolts were easy to remove!

Satisfying job.

In the slightly warmer weather a few weeks ago I noticed the air con wasn't particularly cold. My local garage does a £21 regas through Groupon for sub-3L cars, so I called them and agreed that price for my 4.4. An hour later and I have ice cold a/c again!

Due an oil service soon...

Hi, sorry I didn't reply. The fuel pump was supplied by the specialist, probably a factory LR one as they use genuine parts.

Anyway, update...

I replaced one rear door lock, then the other one went. Then I moved house - so will get to that as I have a new one in a box somewhere. Did the filters for the oil service and will change the oil next week...

once the new gearbox is in. Yes, gearbox death. Whining, slipping a bit, torque converter judder, so it's going in tomorrow for a box rebuild, converter and oil cooler flush (or replacement).

Which is a pain as I was about to part-ex it as my mileage is going up substantially. So if anyone wants a very well maintained L322 4.4 with LPG, digital TV and a new, warrantied gearbox it will be on here soon.
