Tailgate open = battery flat

When sitting on the tailgate for a short while the battery invariably goes flat, is it just the interior lights coming on or something else. Obviously I can disconnect them or change to LED but is there something else? Geoff

I don't really know the answer. However I recently completed fitting a dual battery system to my 2008 tdv8. When I came to finally connecting the 2nd battery the tailgate lights became instantly brighter.

I think a single battery only just meets these cars power demands. The catylst to fitting the 2nd battery was two occasions where the ignition was left on for 1/2 hr and flattened the battery. ______________________________

Changed 19 interior lights on mine for LED's... leave the doors open for as long as you like now....

Having said that 19 lamps at around 3watts each is 57 watts which is only 4.75 amps so a 100amp hour battery should last around 21 hours....

Maybe your battery is on the way out, get a load test done on it... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Pete

I've got to do what Pete's done. However with incandescent bulbs the voltage will drop below cranking capacity before the lights dim to nothing. ______________________________

You can turn your interior lights off with tailgate open with your iiDTool and then only the one light in the back comes on Thumbs Up 2008 MY Supercharged

Your battery is on its way out.
I used to leave my tailgate open all day on nice days and regularly overnight with no problems.

Get your battery checked.

Interior lights should switch off after a number of minutes, tells you in the handbook. I removed the boot lights in my old td6 though as they never went off.

It's 16 minutes and the lights turn off, along with the rest of the car going to sleep, it ignores an open door or boot thinking you made a mistake and tries to save the battery... Thumbs Up Pete

Press and hold the front interior light button as Stan says it will disable he lights.

There is a battery management software update which can be done, which might make things better. Also has yours got the AGM battery or the normal one. Was there not an update to AGM for post 2010?

Should shut down after 16 mins in any case but if you press the key fob it will wake up again afaik. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Normal battery, is the AGM one just a straight swap - any recommendations? Geoff

Not a straight swap as the charging cycles and voltages are different. Afaik. I think it can be changed in the ccf though Thumbs Up Thumbs Up would see if it was part of the LR scheme and you may get it done for you. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
