Work is merely a means to pay for the sat nav, injectors, turbo and gearbox that I've replaced in the last 12 months... I'm holding out on the suspension compressor mind (though did buy a fault reset tool - fingers crossed for an overhaul kit like the P38 has) . Maybe Santa will bring me some overtime Bow down

Todays household failures... Electric shower and home PC hard drive.

I've just spoken to LR this morning regarding the cable. Apparently there are two cables and they cost £7.00-£8.00 each. I was told the most common one for breaking was the lock to exterior handle, but it is my interior handle that is notchy. For the sake of a few pounds and whilst the door is stripped I am going to change both cables.

The two new cables are fitted, the most difficult part is removing and refitting the door card, it's a pig of a job that requires a little patience so that nothing breaks. The lock mechanism has to be removed from the vehicle to replace the cable that runs from the inner handle, if the cable from the outer handle is broken this can be replaced with the lock in situ.

The bad news was my cables from what I can see look fine, they were not frayed and run in their outers freely, but as I had the new ones there was no point refitting the old ones and they will now be put in the spares box.

When I rebuilt everything I tried opening the door from the inside before fitting the door card and the mechanism was still very notchy, so I dismantled it again and lubricated the lock mechanism which seems to have been what my original problem was. To lubricate the inside of the lock it has to be completely removed from the vehicle, so if anyone is fitting new cables it is worth putting a few drops of oil in the lock before refitting.

Once you have fitted the inner cable and whilst the lock is off the vehicle I suggest you operate the lock by pulling the cable a few times to ensure it is working smoothly, this will save you having to remove it later.

Arrived today but way to cold / dark to do it now. Does any one know the card seems to be held with torx screws from the clip I saw. What size? I'm not confident that my socket set will get in to access the screws so I'll get the relevant torx type screwdriver before hand. 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

-5C this morning and the drivers door wouldn't stay shut (once I had got in), so I locked it with the button ... Then 20 minutes later, after unlocking with the central locking, neither inside nor outside door handle would open the door - is it likely that both cables have gone ?

It's sounds like the lock mechanism that has frozen
