Rear parking sensors

Tried to replace a faulty rear parking sensor today, after looking & several cups of tea it was off with the rear number, simple enough, out with the old sensor and in with the new ............. No wrong connector! Purchased from the bay.
So back on with the bumber and all good.

Question is if 1 sensor goes faulty does that mean both front & rear sensors sets do not work at all?

New 'correct' sensor ordered this time! Current: 2015 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography
Old: 2011 4.4 TDV8.... OMG
Old: 2003 TD6 HSE Java Black
Work: 2016 VW T6 140

Hi Everybody.
Now I have a slightly different prob with my sensors. They have worked about 3 times in the past 12 months! So, I imagine, they CAN actually work, but they don't. I presume ALL the components are in working order, but don't work when requested to. When the rear sensors actually worked ( to my surprise ) I then drove forward into a wall and also got the front sensor warning too- so they worked as well.
I asked my 'car electrics' man and he said that because the reversing lights were working then the sensors would also have had the message that I was reversing. So he concluded it wasn't the 'switch' ( which I asked about ) .
Any help would be great news....
Cheers 'Knowledge Is Power'

Thank you of those. But, would a broken loom allow the sensors to work occasionally as they do now?
Also... after selecting 'reverse' and a single beep is heard, followed by a flashing light on the middle console 'P' button, will the sensors still CLICK as I test them if there is a fault?
Cheers. 'Knowledge Is Power'

it sound like an intermittent fault which could be a harness plug or wire easiest way it to bite the bullet and pull the bumpers off it's not a long or complicated job just a series of bolts if you get stuck

Thank you for the video. I presume that one loose wire or plug or anything would effect both front and back sensors then? So, hopefully, if I find a prob after taking off the first bumper, that will fix the other end as well. Smile

yep one wire will do it my money would be on the rear sensors £40 for a new harness from a main dealers if it's the front ones then you're going to have fun.

what i would do would be replace the rear harness as a matter of course and as a way of preventing future issues then after that you could use the old harness to cut up and use to replace and connectors on the front L322 2008 vogue

If you have a tow bar? Plug the electrics in and it will bypass the rear system! Therefore, if the fronts work (with a light board connected) your problem is with the rear end sir Thumbs Up If the system does not work??? (with the light board still plugged in) I would make the assumption the front is the source of your problems Thumbs Up

Update on my sensors, plugged in the new sensor to the rear, still the same, select reverse, long beep & light flashes 6 times but not working.
It is difficult to hear the clicking noise as the engine is running.
I was lead to believe that with the ignition on I could press the park sensor button, but this does nothing.
My problem is I am unable to select reverse until the engine is running (mine is the pop-up gear knob)

Update on my sensors, decided to order a new rear wiring loom, local Indy was £50 + vat, 5 days delivery, so phoned local RR dealer in Belfast, £25 all in with next day delivery! Great service.
Remove rear bumber & install replacement loom, still same fault. Still unable to hear clicking noise from any sensor.
I have 2 new sensors and have tried replacing them & test as I went along.
So, Off with the front bumber (after finding the 2 hidden screws!) Check wiring loom with multi meter & all cables are all fine, did the same with the sensors, replacing as I went along.

I'm stuck, still the same, select reverse, long beep & light flashes 6 times but not working.
It is difficult to hear the clicking noise as the engine is running, keep pressing the park button so it's live.
I was lead to believe that with the ignition on I could press the park sensor button, but this does nothing.
My problem is I am unable to select reverse until the engine is running (mine is the pop-up gear knob)

I'm pulling my hair out, well whatever is left!

Please help, not sure my next option is. Current: 2015 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

if you're having trouble hearing it try using a funnel and a bit of hose stating the obvious but put the mouth of the funnel over the sensor then listen through the hose L322 2008 vogue
