Ok so I've had the dash apart and removed the instrument cluster. The connectors to the wiring loom seem fine and I've sprayed contact cleaner on the plugs but it still does not illuminate.

Thanks for checking. The handbook says it should come on but now I'm beginning to wonder... 2005 Range Rover L322 TD6

My guess and only a guess I am afraid is that the handbook has misinformation my handbook has a couple of things in not correct and also the fact that it illuminates on test implies that the circuitry is ok so there must be no signal

Hi I have a 2006 model & have never seen the mil light on since I got car 3 years ago. does not come on with bulb check . |

Yep. Can also confirm, contrary to the hand book, mine doesn't light up either.
