EML not illuminating

Hi all,

Had my FFRR for a few months now and just noticed that the MIL does not illuminate when the key is in position 2 before starting. To be honest I cannot say if it has ever worked. I've also got a problem where the backlighting for the lower left part of the LCD panel (Inspection / service LCD and ODOMETER) is not working.

I can't find a circuit diagram online which shows the exact connectivity but I'm just wondering if the points to a poor connection or something else. Initially I thought that the backlight bulb had gone for the LCD display and am planning to pull the cluster to replace it, but I know that the MIL is an LED so that is unlikely to be down to a blown bulb hence wondering if maybe there is a common connection between the two somewhere.

Anybody able to shed any light? No pun intended! 2005 Range Rover L322 TD6

Quick update on this.

It look like its the 'send' from the ECU as the light illuminates during the cluster test procedure.

So dash out time I reckon. Hoping it's a loose connector and not a logic fault with the ECU 2005 Range Rover L322 TD6

Ok so I've had the dash apart and removed the instrument cluster. The connectors to the wiring loom seem fine and I've sprayed contact cleaner on the plugs but it still does not illuminate.

I was then thinking that maybe it's a connection at the ECU end but I have taken a good look through the electrical manual and I cannot see a wire which goes from the ECU to drive the EML LED so I reckon it must be controlled through the CAN Bus. Given that it works during the cluster test I know the LED is OK.

Reading up on things I cannot get a straight answer to the question on whether it should light up when the key is in position 2 but the engine not running. The earlier cars (BMW TD6 engine and entertainment system) do light it up but my car is a 2005 which has the BMW engine but the MOST based infotainment system (touch screen). So if anybody else has a car with this combination can they confirm if their light comes on or not?

Can anybody explain how they system works and how the light is driven? 2005 Range Rover L322 TD6

Hi

Just tried mine - The EML does not come one either. Are you sure it should? Perhaps a couple of other TD6 owners could check and let us know!! Thumbs Up

Thanks for checking. The handbook says it should come on but now I'm beginning to wonder... 2005 Range Rover L322 TD6

My guess and only a guess I am afraid is that the handbook has misinformation my handbook has a couple of things in not correct and also the fact that it illuminates on test implies that the circuitry is ok so there must be no signal
Hope someone comes along with a definitive answer

Yes, beginning to look like it may be normal behaviour for this particular variant. 2005 Range Rover L322 TD6

So normal behaviour Very Happy

At least I have managed to fix the lack of illumination for the odometer which WAS down to a blown bulb so the whole dashboard disassembly process was not in vain! 2005 Range Rover L322 TD6

Yep. Can also confirm, contrary to the hand book, mine doesn't light up either.
Thumbs Up
