I mentioned on another thread that I took my car to ZF in Dortmund to have a service done on my gearbox. The original email sent to me by contained the following in German:

Google translation:

In their car , the IF is installed 6 HP - 26X transmission .
ZF recommends a transmission oil at 80 to 120000Km .
It is replaced the transmission sump , new screw and a guide sleeve .
The Mechatronic is expanded , replaced a sealing glasses and the transducer pressed empty air .
The whole operation takes about 4 hours because the gear unit must be filled cold.
Dates We currently do not freely again until week 46
Cost 495 , - € with rinsing 575 , - € .

There are versions in Rover as you do not get the transmission oil pan out without the engine to raise .
There is a conversion kit , if this is done , the cost 800 , - €

In the end I paid 575,-€.

Just read this thread with interest. I have a couple of questions:

If the megaflush AND filter change are done would the filter/sump be replaced before or after the flush?

Also when ZF do the service do they megaflush the gearbox?

Many thanks

Quick search on google found these guys who seem to be doing more than just Mega Flush

Turner Diagnostics Transmission Service (Similar to but more thorough than MegaFlush)

We specialise in diagnosing problems and servicing Automatic Gearboxes as fitted to Land Rover and Range Rover models, our transmission (automatic gearbox) service includes the following.

Check fault codes and monitor "live data" in the gearbox
Determine the cause of any faults or feedback from our customer and advise as necessary
Drain all existing transmission oil
Remove gearbox sump, inspect oil and any contaminants in the sump) and replace the gearbox oil filter and sump
Fill the gearbox with the manufacturers recommended specification of transmission oil
Flush the gearbox until all the oil has been replaced (this typically means that we use about 15-20 litres of oil instead of the maximum of 9 litres that fills the gearbox from scratch)
Reset the adaptions for the gearbox/transfer box
road test and monitor live data with the specifications from the manufacturer.
Check for leaks
Return to the customer.

Remember we recommended that the automatic gearbox oil & Filter on Discovery 3 & 4 and Range Rover & Sport from 2003 onwards is changed every 60,000 milse or less if towing regularly.

Has anyone dealt with them ? Any experience ?

I'm currently having mine done by these guys https://www.str-automatik.de in Friedrichshafen.

Friedrichshafen is where ZF is based. They're an off-shoot of the Zeppelin company - they made the gears for Zeppelins.

At the str-automatik workshops there's loads of pictures of Zeppelin's. They also do transmission work, re-builds, etc, as well as flushing, so they certainly know their stuff.

I asked them if they change the filter and they said always. The mechanic looked a little surprised I asked. Got to say, I agree with Craig's opening post. I think the mobile guys don't do it not only for the extra work, but also because you need the correct parts. These guys asked me for the gearbox number so they could make sure they had the correct oil pan.

Will post more later about how it's gone.

Couldn't agree more - makes no sense to leave the dirty filter and not change/check the magnets which are all part of the sump. I bought a genuine ZF (made by Filtran) Sump and Lifeguard Oil kit for £180 and that came with a new set of bolts. It's not a difficult job to do and any competent mechanic could do it in about an hour.

The reality is the megaflush is less work and more profit for those doing the work but isn't the best thing for the transmission otherwise ZF would recommend it.

Yeah I bet they start off that nice caramel colour when new so the dirty oil doesn’t discolour them too much. ðŸ‘

I’m just about to have mine done on my TDV8 with 95k on the clock. I’ve been quoted 506 all in with new filter, mechatronic and the diff oils for good measure.
My last RR I had for 10 years and the transmission gave up at 147k. My own fault for neglecting it. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded
