The filter isn't really a filter. It's a coarse bit of gauze/foam, to take big lumps of debris out of the oil

Stan I totally agree - you are spot on ! Look at it this way - Change it often - every 50K - its the same thing as flushing - FACT sometimes you can be led up the garden path ! . |

TDV8 at 63k miles before flush...
50k is the service interval as stated by ZF, and also states that a FLUSH is due. A simple drain and refill removes approx 4.5 litres of oil, around 1/3 of the capacity of the gearbox In no way, shape or form, is a drain and refill or even a "double flush" is the same as a power flush |

Mikey - TOP MAN Thank you for taking the time & trouble to upload pictures OK - I Totally agree with you - and you sure know what your doing. What I cant get my head around is that LR UK - service all my cars - only do for £700 a drain & fill !!!!!!!!! Is the oil that expensive - if LR did a Flush as you say - and I think you have a valid point then you are talking about over a £1000 ! Are we saying that you can do all this "at Home" now I read in the workshop manual that when refilling the gearbox the temperature needs to be at running temp so not to over fill Or is it a case of filling up with ( WHAT COMES OUT - MEASURE & PUT BACK IN WHAT HAS COME OUT. Now there's not too much I don't know about car maintenance - but this thread has got me so confused In a nut shell- I totally now see where everyone is coming from WHAT I CANT SEE AND UNDERSTAND - IS WHY LR UK - SERVICE PLAN DOES NOT LOOK AFTER THE GEARBOX OIL IN THIS WAY The Range Rover is their TOP SELLING BEST VEHICLE If after what your saying ONLY 33% COMES OUT with a Drain ! But Once again - Thank you Mickey - really appreciate all you have said & done I THINK EVERYONE ON HERE NEEDS TO COME & SEE YOU AND GET THERE'S DONE PROPERLY ! . |
