Some form of aux/ipod input?

Can anyone identify this bit please?

I have just bought the RR but it hasn't come with a manual to aid identification.

I thought it looked like an ipod dock but open to suggestions

Thanks 2003 V8 Vogue in Silver

Thumbs Up Yup, that's an apple plug if ever I saw one, you might be lucky and have an aux interface installed too, plug in an ipod and see Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Further to this it would appear my Head unit is not standard RR but more likely BMW. Compared to my mates 02 RR it has completely different font the display looks clunky and the buttons are slightly different.

You're right - it does look slightly different - it's been quite a while since I had one of the BMW era cars - so can't quite put my finger on what is different - I think the 3 LED's top right for starters.

Anyway - hopefully everything is compatible - does the iPod dock work of don't you have anything to try it with ?

If it's been adapted properly / completely, then you should hopefully have Aux In listed as an available source - do you have that ?

If the connector works, you can add something like this to convert to bluetooth & use your phone or newer device Thumbs Up

Alistair, thanks for the valuable info.

Yes it has Aux input available, but as i haven't got a 30 pin i device and haven't got time to go and get an adapter.

Even the Aux vent(No heat) and DSP work, radio reception is rubbish also no Nav.

When i get chance I will check the ipod port, but have a weeks skiing to enjoy first. 2003 V8 Vogue in Silver

Shocked That's identical to mine Shocked

You'll need to plug in an ipod to see what happens, if it's anything like the system that I installed then it will operate in CD mode on the radio Thumbs Up

FYI no L/R splash screen is normally caused by a knackered sat nav unit in the boot Thumbs Up

Which in your case is not showing on the options list Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

It does look ever so slightly different from mine (2004 Vogue TD6). You're also missing the navigation menu in that display. As far as I know all RR having the monitor had satnav as well.

This is what mine looks like.

Edit: forgot to mention - my menus will be different because I had replaced the factory MK-III satnav unit with a MK-IV. The display unit is still the factory one though.

Your headunit isnt a Range Rover one, it looks like it's come out of an early X5. That could be reason why nothing is working as it should.

Bow down Hadn't noticed that the power indicator was square instead of round Bow down

Even if it's an X5 or a 5 series unit it will still do the same, a pal of mine didn't have the L/R splash screen or sat nav in his ffrr, turned out that the nav unit was disconnected, plugged it back in and instant splash screen, and a message saying that the CD was missing from the nav unit, even though there was a disc in the unit, then it tried to spin up the disc again and again.......... recon we now know why it was unplugged Laughing Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... That head unit looks identical to ours on a 2003 BMW engine car. You should have an on road navigation and an off road navigation selection on the main screen though. The 3 lights top right are for the in built mobile phone in the centre console that I could never get to work, the button top right when pressed should flip the front screen to expose the cassette slot.
