The cable will have sheered off inside the door. It's not a particularly difficult fix, about 1 hr from start to finish. Much quicker if you're familiar with how the door trim comes off and goes back on?

The handle operates via a cable which is prone to water ingres. Mine freezes up in the winter and allows me to open the door then freezes stuck open . So I suspect you need a new cable or worse the handle may have broken where it fixes on. Let us know how you go on and also could I ask a favour.. a photo of the handle end of the cable so I can understand if its worth faffing with to try and seal from water ingress or if its a new cable job.

It's really not too bad - you have to unscrew the Air Bag from the door frame after taking the door card off for full access, but this is scarier than it sounds. DO NOT DISCONNECT IT - if you feel you must, disconnect the battery first. But I found it just swings to the side supported by its cable (its not that heavy that hanging on the cable would damage it) Expect some skinned knuckles unless you've got girl hands. |

Thanks guys, I had spare 30minutes before it got dark so decided to have a look. I removed the door card (screw hiding behind the airbag emblem) and removed the broken cable. I now just need a new cable lol. Does anyone know if BMW will stock this part or will I have to take a drive to the Land Rover garage? Would order online but don't want to wait for the delivery. |

I've ordered the cable as the handle now feels odd compared to the others.. I suspect its about to fail so will replace it. I'll post a diagnosis once I do a PM on the old one.

As mentioned - just before mine snapped it was like there was a two stage pull to the handle. So if you dont want to be stuck opening from the inside then replace now.

I managed to get my hands on a cable on saturday and fitted it today in the rain, hence no photos. Was easy enough to change the cable. Was a bit of a pain trying to re attach the door card and cables while holding a brolly! Was only £8 from the local specialist. Non of the local dealers had them in stock! |
