Mid unit re-sited into glove box

I have read about putting the mid unit into the glove box after fitting an after market head unit but never seen it documented or photographed. The powerfuluk videos show leaving the cable and plug under the centre dash top speaker grill to enable temporary connection.
Today I dropped the glove box, removed the obsolete multi changer and fitted the mid unit with no dramas. The width of the mid unit is perfect and there is even a lip to support it. Line it up and a final push grabs it with no fixings. The cable easily drops down to connect. I the re-routed the Ipod and USB cables into the glove box. All in all a much better solution, permanent access to the trip computer functions and no more plugs around the gear lever.

England 2004 Range Rover HSE 4.4 V8 Java Black

Hi guys I've just joined this group after spending all day on the sofa reading all 27 pages 🙈 I have a 2004 HSE model but with a DSP amp and monitor screen which currently doesn't work so I've been looking to upgrade my speakers and head unit I messaged Crystal as Haylands/Pete said about the ES2053B and the ES7153B units as I like the look of them but she got back to me asking if I wanted android or MTK does anybody know the difference or which one would be more suitable???
Also I've bid on and won but not payed for yet a full set of Harmon Kardon speakers including sub and amp but noticed after the donar RR was a 2006 does anyone know if the sub or amp will work as I have the xqk000020 which only has one connected plug going into it were the logic 7 one seems to have a few more but not sure what they do??
Rob.

Welcome Rob, the difference between the ES2053B (Android) and the ES7153B (MTK) are, the MTK unit is not a full computer, it more of a monitor. However this is not to say that it is limited, it will do every thing that the LR unit do plus a whole lot more, including access the web with the correct adapter. The best way of determining what they will do is to do a search on Google with the model number, you'll soon get the spec's for them. If you require ipod connection then be careful, some of the units will run an ipod but require a licence dongle which is extra, all be it $10, which is about £7 in our dosh, but will cause a lot of Censored Censored if you have to add it later as it plugs in the rear of the unit Shocked

Erisin also have a UK outlet http://www.erisin.com/Supply-for-bmw_c64 There are a lot more units on here you want the units that will fit the BMW E39 X5 E53. There are different levels of build from the basic to the built in wifi and DVT to full Android. With Android you can add apps, so it can be setup to do what you want, but if you just want a radio and nav unit, and you have no desire to send an email from the fast lane, I'd personally look at the lesser units and save some dosh. They all install in to the car the same way Thumbs Up

As far as the Logic 7 system goes the speakers will work but the amp will not, unless your car has the later touch screen nav unit, but then you will be in a world of hurt as that system is not adaptable and wont work with the Erisin unit. The part number for the amp unit you've listed is an earlier BMW unit, which uses ibus (wire) the 2006 Range Rover's used fiber optic to communicate.

Anyway this is all an ill elephant to your car as it's BMW, and none of it works, so it will all be replaced by the one unit Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

The later speakers aren't much better than the ones you have... and as said the amp is useless...

The head unit in this post is now old hat, ask Erisin for the latest Android unit they have, get the best one going, you don't know what bit's you will use till you have one and the difference between the cheapest and best is minimal...

If you buy one from the UK it won't have any software with it bar the Android operating system, you will have to sort out the GPS and other bits and bobs yourself... didn't seem worth it to me.... depends how much messing about you want... Thumbs Up Pete

Cheers for the quick reply guys I think I'll give the speaker package a miss and just buy replacements and the original sub box that should of been in mine and then upgrade the 2 subs in it. I emailed and spoke to crystal at erisin and she said that the es2053b I asked about is the newest android version out with full HD 7" touchscreen I'm just waiting for a price back and for the extension lead aswell is there anything else I'll need to order aswell??? I guess then I'll have to do what Wayneg did and try and get the DSP working that way so I don't lose any functions??

I doubt you have a FBH being a petrol and the only other functions you lose are the ability to set the clock, this can be done by removing the fuse and putting it back in at 12am or pm as the clock resets itself... you also lose the ability to reset the mpg figure which is so far from the truth anyway it's nothing you will miss, you can still get the distance to empty and the mpg on the bottom of the dash display....

Just fit the unit first and see what you think before spending loads of money on other stuff...

You will need a longer aerial lead to get from the back to the front and a sub lead as well, the last couple I've had from them have had an iso to fakra connector but you may need one of those if yours doesn't...

Wire it all up in the boot first and try it out and then if you need extra wires etc from front to back you can get them before you take the inside out

Good Luck

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Pete

Shocked I thought that the FBH was there to increase the fuel consumption, so that the car matched the MPG on the screen Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
