Disconnecting the battery won't upset anything else apart from the clock... it's worth a try but don't hold your breath... see the procedure for battery disconnect in the WIKI Pete

If you have the door open and ignition off it will move to the memory position with one touch of the button, if the door is shut or you have the ignition on you have to press and hold the button... it's to stop a one shot move whilst driving... could be dangerous... Pete

It seems the ECU is inside the drivers seat switch pack.... plenty on ebay
