Whats worse Angel, I'm confusing the sport with the evoque

For me getting back to the L322 was no problem, need the car for highways mostly. Indeed the L405 handles corners better but then it's more like a regular car to drive. Personally it doesn't bother me.

On my 7th RR plus various other JLR vehicles

I made the move about 9 months ago and have (almost) no regrets.

The L405 is light years ahead of the L322 on the road and looks "the dog's" IMHO. Road manners are transformed. It is capable off road too - some of the muddy, gloopy tracks I have made it down (on road tyres) defy belief.

The downsides have been mentioned: smaller boot (not great if you have a dog and go shooting like I do); the faff of getting to the heated seats (waiting for the boot sequence to finish, then realise you've put it in reverse so the screen is now showing the rear camera). At first the lack of sunglasses cubby annoyed but the door cubby is actually more useful (I have prescription and normal glasses in there).

I slightly wish I'd gone petrol as there is a very faint hum at 85mph on an autobahn - and that is my preferred cruising speed. It is a tiny resonance but I notice it on a long run.

While the 405 has much better performance and refinement and looks more modern, in addition to the 322 advantages already identified:
1. As yet the 405 has no LR homologated off road tyres, whereas the 322 has the Goodyear Duratrac 255/55r19 on style 15 wheels for 4.4 TDV8 and the 19" wheels generally on earlier 322s.
2. For users of single garages the 405 is quite a tight fit through the door even with folded mirrors and getting in and out once inside the garage is a bit of a squeeze. When my 322 had its last battery drain the LR Assistance technician opened the passenger door but I had to volunteer to get in to the car to release the car from 'park', as the technician was not sure he could get in without causing damage. I wonder whether even I could get in to a 405 on the passenger side when in the garage. In case anyone wonders I am 6'3" and under 12 stone.
3. The shape of the 405 mirrors seemed to me to cause drips to be thrown on to the mirror glass where they then dry, reducing rear vision, especially when driving on salted roads. That does not happen with the 322.
4. While the 405's air suspension gives it good ground clearance, I would worry about vulnerability of the aluminium body when driving off road, eg on a deep rutted track, compared with steel. When I was on the Solihull factory tour in 2013 I asked about aluminium repairs and was told that LR had recognised this issue and established specialist repair centres, but my impression was that they expected that there would be less scope for repairing aluminium cars and that write-offs would be more common. Another product of the use of aluminium is that pillars are wider, making blind spot monitoring a desirable extra.

Apparently 16MY cars are getting revised heating controls so you can turn on the heated seats without messing with the screen menus.

Better late etc, one supposes...

Existing owners might be comforted if pre-MY16 customers received a picture of Mr McGovern with the caption, "I'm sorry..."

Was out with a colleage today who had been given a new Disco Sport as a courtesy car whilst his Disco 4 was in for service.

Whilst the car was fairly unremarkable the infotainment was light years ahead of that fitted in my 14.5.
