The steering wheel switch is non latching, and if the red light is coming on then the switch is doing its job. But if the light is going out almost instantly, I would surspect the 'ECU' |

What your saying is it's a re-named glow plug timer that L/R have marked up to the power of 10 |

Wasn't ignoring bud, just questioning the implied computer control bit, a timer chip is more like a stupid computer sitting in the corner with it's shoes and shocks off, to enable it to count to 20! ECU's to me contain a processor and require mutiple inputs to function, where as we are talking about something that's more like a flasher unit or a wiper delay relay. Relay to me is £5 to £30, ECU is £200 plus, although if JLR are invloved £200 + for a simple relay is not beyond imagination |

Sounds like the element has developed a fault. I had the exact same problem. Press the button, red light comes on then goes off. Is a circuit that's constantly monitored by a thermistor used to regulate the temperature, same as the heated seats. The eminent could be fine and the thermistor could be at fault. Regardless no items are serviceable. The wheel change is an easy job although the air bag is fiddly to remove (especially if someone's been at it before)

Well my steering wheel ECU must be well broken because mine stays on for as long as the button is pressed, had it on for three hours the other day.... I do like warm fingers....
