How do I know if I have rear locking diff ?

I am currently trying to source the diff oils for my car but I'm trying to find our if I have the locking rear diff. As I know they use a different oil. I'm assuming there must be away to select this feature within the car ? I have looked and from what I can see it doesn't appear to have one but just want to be 100% sure before ordering the oil .

Also I'm trying to find out the oil capacity for the rear diff ? Range Rover Vogue 2006 4.4 AJV8 | Buckingham Blue | Parchment Leather | Supercharged Grill+Side Vents | CA02 HEY ( NOT 02 PLATE )

I am not an expert in your model year...but

If you look at the diff, there is a large motor and clutch assembly bolted to its side if you have the ETM diff fitted.

or, if you cant look (cos you'l get mucky)...

If you have a Terrain Response knob, select mud ruts / rocks and the 4 wheel layout on the screen will appear. If there is a padlock symbol over the rear diff you have it (it would change from green to orange when the diff locks in slippery situations) AFAIK you cannot manually engage the diff lock, its all automatic.

Capacities - Unit- Service Fill Capacity

Electronic torque managed (ETM) differential - 1.55 liters (2.81 pints) (1.40 US quarts)

In I get the padlock even though I haven't got the locking rear diff, as the locking is done by the abs system afaik. You have to get under and have a look👍 though I would hazard a guess you don't have one as it's not a massively common option. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

The shot angle doesn't show enough for me...

If the diff is a uniform shape all round, then its standard, if there a lump with a motor body sticking out, it could be a LD. GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

Done a bit more digging and I recon it is the rear locking diff on mines called LR they checked the vin and said it is and also had another good look underneath this time and spotted a wire going into the top of the diff.

I dont think I can check through the 4x4 info as I don't have TR. took a few more photos if someone could confirm this for me that would be great.

Also I checked the drain plug set I have and the only one I have that fits is for the front fill bolt (14mm) the back fill bolt looks smaller and the 2 drains look the same hopefully. is there anyway I can find the sizes for these without just buying tools hoping that they fit ?

found a 8mm allen socket which fits the fill bolt on the rear diff, tried to free of both the fill bolts front was fine but the rear is not for moving don't want to round it so left it for now.

any ideas for this ? i was thinking of trying the method of heating the bolt and then holding a ice cube to it Range Rover Vogue 2006 4.4 AJV8 | Buckingham Blue | Parchment Leather | Supercharged Grill+Side Vents | CA02 HEY ( NOT 02 PLATE )

i am facing the same drama with rear diff. has a wire going on top of it.
IIDTool says locking diff not fitted.
Vindecoder doesnt say anything about the rear differential.
no padlock on 4x4 menu screen

there is NO actuator motor on top of it, just a wire going on top of it, like the one posted above in this thread.

the drain plug is some square keyhole roughly 10mm.

bit confused if its standard or locking e diff. its a 2010 3.6D.

Please advise.

Thanks

I would say that is a vent pipe, not electric wire.

Yes I also feel that it's not e-diff
There is no actuator motor on top of it for sure.

So can I go ahead and use the same oil as the front diff then.

Will it kill the diff if Its indeed an e-diff and I use the oil I used in front diff.

This is what the locking diff looks like:

The pipe going into the top is the breather. The electrical connection goes into the side of the motor and needs to be twisted to undo it.
