Dave, firstly welcome sir Thumbs Up

Secondly, i do NOT know of anyone that has managed to blank TDV8 EGR's yet sir. They are electronic so cause all manner of faults just blanking them... They need mapping out too...

So, unless your Dad has a strange obsession with watching his money go up in almost the same amount of smoke that will come from the LH exhaust... My advice is to resolve the issue immediately sir...

Alive Tuning, for one can map out TDV8 EGRs Thumbs Up

If you are familiar with mapping software, it's not a huge issue to overcome.

Ok So this might be a dumb question isn't the egr on a TDV8 the same as one on a TD6? i.e. the computer tells a gizmo when its time to open the egr the gizmo sends a signal to a thing-e-mebob and the thing-e-mebob sends vacuum to the egr opening the valve into the inlet manifold

I only bring this up because on my TD6 I blocked the vacuum pipe there by stopping the burnt exhaust gasses
re entering the combustion chamber

have I done wrong ???

Bit more complex on the TDV8 Thumbs Up

The valves are electronically controlled by the engine ECU. When the valves are opened, the management is expecting to see a drop in airflow through the air flow meters, as it shuts the butterfly valves on the throttle bodies, to "suck" the waste exhaust gas through the EGR.

This is due to emissions regulations, with the TDV8 being an EU4, and the TD6 being an EU3

In addition to this, due to EU rules, EU4 engines MUST display a warning if there is an issue with the emissions control system. This was not a requirement on EU3

Thumbs Up

No. A warning light does not a complex system make. And emissions tightening standards is only sensible.

And, though advancing technology makes reducing emissions even further a possibility, the un-robust EGR system on the TDV6/8 is a JLR specialty.

On the point of blanking the EGR with plates, we have done this in a few local TDV8 3.6 without deleting the EGR duty cycle in the map, and have had no DTC come up
Perhaps the software is different between UK and ROW vehicles?

So, does mapping out the EGR valves cause emission problems at MOT time? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

Yes Yes Yes.......someone who thinks like me, if you blank the port on the inlet side of the valve the actual valve would open (ecu's doing its thing valves opening ecu thinks everything is ok) but the burnt gas is not returning to
the inlet chamber..........as to UK and ROW cars after exploring the CCF on a UK car everything is there to change it to a AU configuration on the audio and TV side of things any way the venture cam was also there but turned off all you have to do to get it working on a car that came out of the factory without one is turn it on in the CCF, so I would guess there is no difference in the programs only in the way they are set up

Did you notice any improvement after blanking them off??

In respect of the MOT I would say not if the motors ruining well it will pass an emissions test with the EGR blanked

Bet that smells like an old ice cream van doesn't it? Removing both the EGR & Cat makes them stink!

It doesn't smell nice Laughing

Made all the difference to the way it drives though. Even those with *highly recommended* remaps can't keep up with mine Mr. Green
