cheers stand, all have a mother look tomorrow morning.....so we mean take the unit off the car so to speak to change the bulbs rather than access from the back? that would make sense as it looks a little snug Wink

the headlight has to be taken off the FF to change any bulbs in the unit, very easy to do but make sure you have a cloth or something on the bumper as it can get scratched... ... - .- -.

New bulbs IN. Didn't take out the headlight to fit the xenon and the full beam light. Much brighter, more coverage on the road too. We checked the alignment of the light before changing bulbs and it was spot on. We looked at the throw of the light and it started off initially bright and went slightly dim after 5-10 secs. Replaced the xenon and checked again, the light started of quite bright and then got brighter over 5-10 secs and again it was spot on on the alignment. The new H7's made a great difference over the bulbs that were in.
So I'm really happy now.

Thanks for all your inputs (especially Stan) Thumbs Up

Hard to say Stan, in my case there was a big improvement but my original bulbs weren't that good. They are a lot brighter. The ones I put in the D3 weren't these bulbs and I think these are brighter than the ones in the D3. Full beam is A LOT better.
I think if you are happy with what you have at mo leave them, until you need to change them.
Hope that's a little help. Wink

Lad

have you got the links to the two types of bulbs that you bought?

also did you say that you changed them without taking the headlamp off?

Off on a slight tangent, the standard dip beam headlights on the MGTF were Censored .
I have just fitted some H7 Nightbreakers and found a massive improvement although some reviews say they might not last as long. They are standard spec so no risk to wiring by fitting more powerful lamps. I am going to get some to upgrade the Mainbeam and foglights on the RR Mine was a blue one! Smile

one further question men, which is the bulb that is used when normal night driving i.e. NOT on main beam as i find that the normal lights are the ones that are a bit poor....

you have a xenon bulb which is active on dipped beam , when you flick the high beam on there's a little flap that 'opens' up that same bulb to high beam, also the h7 halogens come into play ... ... - .- -.

only the philips extremes are around that price , you can get decent 6000k ones for about £30 a pair on ebay..

and before anyone says that these are rubbish then thats not true, ihad some on my td6 and they were fine... ... - .- -.

technically the 4300k temperature is brighter than the 6000k but these were whiter light so it gave the impression of being brighter...
i also cranked up the height of both headlights to make them 'beam out' further.. ... - .- -.
