MK4 Sat Nav Disk

My sat nav was updated before I got it and has a mk 4 unit, which I was lead to believe had post codes look up in it - which mine doesn't!

Also, the map is somewhat out of date. Can it be updated, if so, to what and from where do I get it? Tym

If it sticks, force it. If it breaks, it needs replacing anyway.

You can only enter a 5 digit postcode where you enter the "city". It says city/pc on the screen or similar. When you have put in the 5 digits, you can pick a road that the unit finds are in that area.

You will only be able to enter a 7 digit postcode if you have non standard modded firmware installed.

The map disks are Navteq ones, though you'll have to do some research as to the exact right one. They are available on the net.

Mine only says "City"...

...and doesn't like any form of post code. After putting the first two letters in, the numbers stay "dull" so it seems quite obvious that mine is not set up for post codes... Censored Tym

Might be loaded in "Extras".

Try this,

7 Digit Postcode Search

Go to the menu screen select GPS, scroll down
Select information,
Then travel information,
Then information on location,
Then extras
Then UK postcodes,
Then postcode A,B,C etc whatever postcode you need to look for.

Do you need to have the latest firmware installed ?

The latest bmw released was v32, but there is not a like for like display on the unit, ie it does not say v32 even when it's installed.

Go to the set screen and look what it lists as software.

Is it something like 1/00 from memory ?

Just had a quick google, the latest v32 is shown as 4-1/100 in the set screen..... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

The drawbacks of having 10 year old satnav. It really is total pants. You should see the MK III though.

Interesting post, I have just spent 220 pounds on a dvd sat nav unit and supposed to be 2016 maps. I cannot find a post code search , so I assumed It was a waste of money . Then I read this thread , halaulah, there seems to be a way . I am now going to check further and need to delete a whole lot of destinations , how do I do this , I tried following the cd manual , but its not the same , seems the previous owner lived around London! Not likely to need all these , so need to delete.
Has any one got an old manual for dvd machine instructions please.

It's best to have a look on the BMW forums and search for sat nav. That's where I learned to use mine..... Thumbs Up ______________________________

Thanks , meantime I'll have a look.
I get the feeling that apart from postcode info, there is not a lot of improvement after spending £220,
Ok its up-to-date I think, but that could have the same effect if I ugrade the cd info.
Any thoughts
Since looked at post code facility, a bit weird for 2016 , however it seems to work, need a book.I think.

Downloaded part of the booklet from Bimmernav , everything will become clearer no I think....haha!
