I understand that they have been successfully retrofitted to 2002-2005MY, but does anybody know if and how they can be fitted to a 2007MY?

I don't know but have been researching it based on my 2010 not having the paddles which the diesels have. That turns out to be the 8 speed box not being fitted to the S/C which mean I effectively have the 06-09 6hp28 gearbox that you have and I would quite like the paddles.

Not sure what it might do to the gearbox ecu though as that wasn't designed with paddles in mind in the RR. However, that same 6hp28 box (sans transfer box) was fitted to the Jag XF and that does have the paddles. It also has the round pop-up gear knob though so I'm guessing the ECU (inside the box I think) must be a bit different as it does behave differently based on various other modes/settings.

I think we need RRPHIL and possibly someone from GAP or BlackBox to sort the electrickery. I would hazard a guess that the paddles are connected to the CANBUS or something similar, not directly to the gearbox ECU.

Just for info the 5.0sc does have the 6hp28 but it is an uprated version of the 6hp26 in the 4.2 sc and tdv8, i reckon it could be done but it wouldnt be too easy, i think the paddles would normally connct to the cars bus, so separate wires
Would have to be runto the microswitches on the gearbox to override them. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

You can definitely retrofit paddles on a 5.0 SC. They were fitted from 2011 onwards and are easy to fit on 2010, there's a thread about this on rangerovers.net I think.

The 06-09 car has a manual mode, so it shouldn't care how that's activated. A switch is a switch. If there was no manual mode, then I think you could get some trouble.

OK, I found the thread on the other side HERE

So, it seems that if you add this mod it has to be turned on in the CCF (there is mention if it being in the body control module) and it behaves as my wife's XF does. See post 25. THis being the case and the fact that the same basic gearbox is in both cars there is probably an ECU difference to enable this, maybe something as simple as a firmware upgrade.

However, I'm not sure when they went from the 6hp26 box to the 6hp28 in the full-fat. In Disco it seems to be 2006 and again I believe it was mainly an upgrade to get rid of the 2nd gear to 1st gear 'bang' and to handle the extra torque of the TDV8 so it should be similar enough to possibly connect up in the same way.

In all cases it will need a diagnostics tool to enable the option and this is where I think the 06 to 09 cars will be most likely to fail in as much as the option probably won't be there. Maybe ask the GAP chaps to chip in on this point.

OK, after a bit more reading and having examined the inside of teh steering wheels on a 2008 and my own 2010 it seems the problem with the 06 to 09 cars is the lack of a connection port to the canbus in the steering wheel switch modules and the fact that LR changed their canbus from 29 bit to 11 bit at the 2010 change (might have been other way around)

The 2010 onwards with the updated switch packs has the connector so they can just be plugged in. Happy days there.

But I think the paddles as they are, even if they can be connected to the canbus somehow, will have the wrong message length for the older canbus to recognise. Even if it was what they know as a remote message I doubt the trigger frame from the paddles would be in the correct format. It's right now I wish I understood canbus a bit more

So, if my thoughts are correct then the best way would be to modify the paddles to become pure microswitches and use standard wire to splice them into the + and - switches on the command shift side of the gear lever. That still leaves the small matter of getting the wire from the steering wheel down to the console. Unless you have the non-heated wheel (HSE only I think) there aren't any spare connectors in the clock spring pack. The guys with the earlier cars might be able to help here but I never had a pre 06 car personally so I don't really know but several people have done this mod on an early car and there's a youtube video on how to modify the switches.

@ Mzplcg...Going to go down the simple approach / route to see if I can just link in to the micro-switches (if there are such things fitted) that are normally actuated when the gear select lever is pushed forward or back (+/_) to the paddles by hard wiring or a remote wireless link. Forget about it, they're pretty useless! I never change manually with so much torque on hand.
