I noticed a split secoind whine on the engine under a hard acceleration, with tin tent on the back, over the weekend. No performance issues, no warning lights, no real issue but it was at low speed if I accelerated you could hear the slight turbo whistle and a very dull whine over the top of it....solo I can't hear it, so is it a problem ready to go...when under load ?

This morning I had it plugged in and no faults reg'd.

Any ideas chaps Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Towed 'van today and once again in low gears and when pulling away the whining is back. Not a sound when solo, only when towing...

No one any ideas ???

Read a few posts and they 'suggest' it could be a host of things but transmission, front diff, seals, belts ???

Getting worried now as garage can't find a fault and say a road test revealed nothing to worry about.... Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

I always get slightly more noise when towing, there is more load etc going through the drivetrain than standard, specifically the tc has extra work to do overcoming the inertia of the van.

So long as it doesnt get any worse i wouldnt worry to much, if anything was about to go bang i suspect that you would hear it solo as well.

Have you had all the oils done, transfer box, diffs and auto box? May be worth changing them if not done, there are magnets on the diff plugs and inspection of any residues would reveal any trouble. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I am dropping it with the lads in the indy tomorrow...they said they will do a fluids service, but like you - they say you will hear more noise under load when towing....it's pulling like a train and there is no lacking of horses !

Am hoping it's normal....lets see though...fingers crossed Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Mine had this, it was the pulleys and pre-tentioners for the Air Consystem, something was seizing and a plastic bearing melted

I have a similar issue that still hasn't been sorted after numerous attempts. what was the fix for you? did you change a pre tensioner or pulley?

Into Indy in the morning now, also to check a bloody rattle that's now appeared from the front left corner and disappears when I brake. I am hoping its a stone tuck in the sump guard area but that's wishful thinking on my part ! Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Hi, I cut the pretensioner and belt off, then fitted a replacement... if it's melted when the bearing has gone like mine had;
a) it's a to remove

b) you may need to look at the other pulleys the belt goes around, as mine had been damaged by the debris and the shredded belt.

Bit trickier to get the belt on a tdv8, goes all over the shop, but i would reckon that the amount of load on the aux belt whild it varies under load slightly would not be affected by towing. Worth a check that all is running freely though, if its not it should be immediately apparent.

Doubt you would hear a stone also, my money on the arb drop links.....  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Drop links nice and cheap. Oem lemforder ones available from ecp and do-able on the ground with a spanner. Should be about £40. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
