Have experienced this on several SC's make sure you have both rear callipers replaced at the same time to be on the safe side... Other wise it could lead to an unexpected break down at an inconvenience time/place... They have a habit of chewing through pads and the heat will wreck your disc and could even cause brake failure due to heat in the fluid...

I have been achieving 9mpg around home with the brake problem, but I reckon it was sticking on slightly before which is why it kept wearing the discs out, well to be accurate the offside disc which doesnt have a warning wire in the pads. Cheap! Anyway, before the 9mps it usually 14.5. Yuk, but I reckoned the depreciation of switching a 2006 to a 2012 TDV8 with an all new FFRR out next year would be way more than the fuel bill Smile

As Craig said, I ended up getting both done albeit one after the other.

I've had my 2007 FFRR for 3months now and started to hear a grinding noise, bit of investigation work i found it was the rear drivers side pad had completely worn to the metal and subsequently discovered it was cos of a sticking caliper. So having the disks (cos 1 is ruined), pads and calipers replaced by a neighbour as I don't want to drive it but my question is, should i complain to the $tealers about this?

Is it something they should have picked up in either:

a) their 100+ point check thats done before it goes out on the showroom floor
b) the MOT which was done in december by same $tealer

Not sure if i've got a leg to stand on.....?

Also, is there not a sensor that should have fired when the pad was getting low?

the binding brake could have started the next day after you brought the range so i dont think you have a case with the dealer especially after 3 months.... ... - .- -.

thought that'd be the case Sad

For future reference, if there's no sensor on the outer pad (which is the one thats fooked on mine, inner is fine) and mpg is what i'd class as avg (32mpg on a run, 22-25mpg combined), how do i know i've got an issue. Didn't notice anything until i heard the noise and only heard that cos i had the window down which i don't often do.....

As Stan states above, the brake caliper can stick on at any point unfortunately leading to ruined pads & discs... They can last a couple of hundred to a couple of thousand miles depending on how much the brake is stuck on! The more stuck the quicker it wears, i am surprised most drivers state the car drove the same.

Im sorry but it could have only been stuck on for a couple of hundred miles before you noticed!

I had a customer a couple of months back who's "wife" drove the car half way to London with the handbrake on! The rear shoes lasted 45 miles before failing... Ruining the whole of the rear brake system!

That's normal for a supercharged. It's good to get into double figures booting a Twisted Evil

Any tips for freeing up the suck calliper to see if it temporarily cures it?

The cost of JLR replacements are low now Gary. Not worth the strip down to free off then the same labour to do the job again for an extra £75ish for a JLR re-manufactured unit from Dan...

Will buy a couple of units from Dan.

Is there an easy way of knowing if its Pads/Callipers or Handbrake drums?

Gary
