ECU problem

Hi,

took the car to Jamesons 4x4 in Birm who have the full JLR test book kit etc.

They've not been able to get their kit to talk to my car (L322 2004 4.4v8) - reckon if it takes a day I could be looking at £300'ish to get up and running, but may well be cheaper.

Is there anything else I can investigate myself in the meantime?

Car is giving following:

    Air Susp. inactive
Sometimes takes >10secs to turn over and fire up
    Possible misfire?

Can't read any of the faults without getting into the ECU's Sad

Cheers

u could buy ur own diagnostics kit i have the IID Tool on my 2004, also i know the hawkeye worked fine with it and the new snap on tools work a treat to, it might b worth getting another garage to try hooking up to it

+ 1 for the iidtool, but the dealers setup couldn't talk to your FF ,is there a problem with the obd port?

i would also test the battery to make sure its ok..

Thanks cliffy ... I don't think it's the garage tho' - these guys work full-time on LR's and I've also tried the following:

IID Tool from another kind member on here
AutoLogic (or Autosys) tool from a diagnostics specialist

Surely one of the 3 would've worked - the fact they've all come back with nada seems to suggest the issue is with the vehicle?

Stan - the battery seems fine to me and I'm sure these guys would've checked that first (after all they're not amateurs).

I did see a mobile Land Rover technician van drive past me in my home town (Darlaston / Wednesbury, West Mids) the other day, tried to get the name or number but was too late Sad

He has suggested the method of disabling/disconnecting all ECU's and trying each one in turn to see which is dragging the network down.

well if three aint working its not a 1 off issue

as stan said battery voltage would be my next step

i hav heard it banded around if u disconnect the battery and join the pos & neg together it resets the ecus but dont quote me on this something i have never tried personally

I've already tried the disconnection of the battery procedure altho' I didn't put the leads together from memory.

The battery voltage is 13.2v when off and 14.3v on idle.

Hope this isn't the start of big repair bills!

My understanding is that it's essentially a serial network - similar to the old christmas tree lights.... one duff bulb takes out the rest in the circuit

And have looked for obvious signs of it being a fuse and none are blown

Will take a flashlight to it and have a look, failing that... a flame and some catalyst Smile

Laughing ..lets hope its something as simple as a bent pin, but you're not out of the woods yet, you still need to sort out your initial problem..

Jaipal,

Did you ever find the solution to this?

I have the same problem, diagnostic tools can't make contact. I have checked the OBDII socket thoroughly and all pins are good. There is also current on all pins in the socket.

I have done all the other things suggested in this thread and still wonder what it could be.

I'm very grateful for ideas of where to check next. ----------
