Service department have requested the car is with them for a week just in case!
Have been shown the bulletin and instructions how to do the mod I am somewhat nervous!
And I trained as a toolmaker so know a bit about machining etc

I have a mechanical engineering background and quite some hands on machining experience (cars, bikes and guns) and I don't like it either, at least not the work done by a "normal" car mechanic. If it is a properly trained machinist, that know how to drill and tap and make sure no metal goes in, fine.

By the sounds of it, it is the return oil anyway, so I would say, shortly after the job, go in and get oil and filter changed  MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

So they are not drilling into an oil way !!! The drain will only be back into a sump so i cant see the problem, I take it they are saying the oil cannot escape the turbo center cartridge fast enough and is backing up past the seals, we have the same problem on the very large turbos we fit to the Jap cars I build and they have to have a monster size drain to get the oil away. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

I don't know the exact position of the pipe but from what I understood its a drain back to either block or sump
When works done I will try and fine out all info

Last big turbo i installed was a GT28RS

Standard Fiat oil drain was good so was re-used



Whats the betting the current pipe is like a U bend on a toilet

If its been smoking you best watch for the DPF failure after a while as they aren't meant to take much oil being spat out and it will burger the turbos bearings as well so its quite a costly design issue for JLR. RFAA and rjbax, I've just seen the same on my car today. I notice it once last month and thought it was just the DPf cleaning out. But saw the same today and exactly as RFAA described. Did they drill as you were told and is the problem fixed? My cars due to go in soon to fix a few other issues so what sshould I tell them to make sure they fix this as well? Is it worth getting the DPf and turbo replaced as well now to avoid a problem later on? MY11 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - "African Queen"

It's a job with a 9 hour book time. Diff has to be removed and transmission cooler pipes. Problem relates to a pipe being ineffective in draining oil back to the sump.

Does anyone know if there is a VIN number range of effected cars available? 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11

Shalz The dealers had mine for 13 days to fix its quite an involved job apparently and requires the front subframe and suspension legs removing to allow better access, the time on topix is unachievable in the words of the dealers!!.
they did some other work as well but 9 hrs is never going to be a sufficient amount of time they are concerned about swarf contamination etc
the block and oil ways are drilled using special drill guides.
I am told that no damage should have been caused to either turbo or DPF but I am a little sceptical.
my understanding is that specific vin number cars are not affected, it is more down to how the car is driven. if its not thrashed and is driven more steadly this can cause problems.
mine smoked worse after a long steady drive say at 70 on a dual carriageway then pulling away from a roundabout when it would unleash a massive plume!! 2011 TDV8 Galway Green Vogue Se
