I'd like to fit new as I don't want to have to do it again for a while.

Mine is limping along putting out 13.7v
But had a squeeling moment when it was down to 13.5v and the battery light was on.
Threw a load of wd40 and silicone into it and it's been OK since.

Will buy it one for Christmas

How hard was this to change please? Did you get it done by a garage? or if you did it yourself did you do it from below or above?

Garage did it for me, as I had the water pump done at same time and didn't want to do that one as it looked too much lying on my back.

Water pump can be manipulated out after removal of the headlamp and coolant header tank though to give you some room.

Hi Sirs,
I did that job two weeks ago.
On my car, rhd I know I know, there was no space to get the
alternator out from underneath. So I just loosen it from below.
Than I took the main cooling fan, shroud and expansion bottle
out. Mine bottle is on the left hand side. That gives me the
space to lift the alternator out.
Job it not difficult but there is not much space to loosen the
+ cable and the connection plug. Thats a little bid fiddling.
Remember ....... lose is in the normal running direction
of the fan. Always. Spanner is 36mm.
