Swapping Xenon to non-xenon headlights

Hi all

I need to swap the headlights from a UK spec 2003 vogue (xenons) to LHD-spec lights for registering the vehicle in France.

It seems much cheaper and easier to find non-Xenon (halogen) units second hand. Does anybody know if I can replace the Xenon units with halogen units without overly complex wiring and/or lots of bulb failure type error messages appearing?? I'm not too fussed about whether I have xenon or halogen.

TIA

Best regards

Jerry

Why? ...just switch them to lhd. It only takes 5 minutes
That's all I had to do to get it through the CT

From memory you have to have a LHD beam pattern to register a car in France - the headlamp shutter lever masks off the RHD nearside high lights (which normally light up the kerb/ pavement) - but it doesn't give you a proper LHD beam (just a flattened RHD beam).

Exactly right VagelyVogue the light go from RHD to flat beams so as not to dazzle... To pass a french test they must be LHD lights...

You can plug halogen or xenons in on an 05> facelift without issue but only if you dont have cornering lights...

Craig Thumbs Up

Well both my BMW and TDV8 passed by just doing this.
If you really want to spend €1000 + changing the head lights + €800+ CO2 import tax + £100 certificate of conformity etc it's up you.
It's not cheap to import a luxury car into France, but still a lot cheaper than buying the same over here.
Where abouts are you based?

Thanks for the input - seems like we have two different opinions re what is required to get through the French CT! Will probably ask my friendly CT man to take a look before I spend €€€ on new lights.

Craig - do you know if the same is true for pre facelift cars, i.e. the headlight units can be swapped for halogen ones? The car I am hoping to buy is 2003.

Thanks again for all the help, I'm very pleased to have joined this forum!

Cheers

Jerry

Sorry guys
Didn't mean to come across as a know all!
Yes you are probably right that by switching, they are never going to be "true" lhd lights, but myself and 3 other of my friends have done this on their disco`s and Rangies, and all have passed the CT, when I brought our old P38 over, it cost me €600 to change the lights.

I'm in the Perigord, so more apples and Fois Gras than cheese.... right up in the north east corner of the Dordogne.

Verydisco - would certainly be interested in your lights but if they are adaptive I am guessing they are post-facelift so won't fit my (intended) 2003...?

Cheers

Non, they will not fit unless you get the whole kit kit if you want to get a 2006/2009 facelift (got it all)

I am around your neck of the woods lads. PM for precise location.
