havent changed any of the wiring apart from unplugging the old motor and connecting the replacement one. the old motor worked perfectly up until it broke because the plastic gear was worn.

have a closer look at the stalk, could be shorting out there causing a permanant power supply to the motor. ... - .- -.

i would say its not a motor issue as it is working as it should,if it was running all the time then maybe yes.. i would go for the stalk first, disconnect the stalk and have a look to see if anything is visable, have a look at rave to see what wires are involved and get you meter on them.. ^^^ I agree. Possibly the switch has an earth fault.

If you still have the old motor, put it back in to see if the fault is there. There is a chance the new one has been wired incorrectly. I have had to rewire plugs on stepper motors because some manufacturers are too stupid to follow wiring diagrams ! Previously..
