This is an interesting debate. I agree 10 mins isn't a lot plus the slight deviation but I just find it irritating having to plan just to fuel up, if swmbo also fuelled then it wouldn't bother me as much
The problem for me is that i also only fuel up at certain fuel stations because over the last few years I have had major issues with contaminated fuel from some fuel stations in previous vehicles and so I only fuel up 2 stations on the routes we regularly travel.
(Don't want to start a debate about fuel quality, just my personal experiences with local fuel stations)

On fuel station quality, it is not uncommon that fuel stations in European countries do have an occasional issue. I remember that in my area (Western part of the Netherlands) we had several fuel stations that sometimes just sold crap fuel. Sometimes they got water in their tanks after rain or other issues.

Anyway, I would love to have the range of diesel and over here prices are now the same (95 Naira per liter) but in the discussion petrol/diesel, I would still go for the economics if that was important (for me it is). But then it should be overall cost, including every aspect. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I think in a couple of years when my circumstances change and my mileage drops I will definatly get a petrol, and have one diesel and one petrol. Best of both worlds!

I have not read all the thread as with 8 pages to read I have spent that 10 minutes filling my SC instead!

The whole arguement depends on the use of the car, annual mileage and the budget involved.

I have just sold my 2004 TD6 HSE with 107k and bought a 2005 RR SC with 70k and only spent £4k more (to be fair, a good deal at both ends). I now have more power than I need but I love it, the smoothness of a freshly waxed stripper, and an awesome soundtrack to boot! Add to that touch screen nav, reverse camera, TVs in the rear, Logic 7, heated steering wheel etc etc and a great looking RR without having to bolt anything on.

Older dash style but cheaper RFL than a 2006/56 TDV8 which would have cost at least £5k more for a similar mileage with lower spec.

An annual mileage of 3k-5k makes the decision a no brainer, but as they say, it's "horses for courses"! RR 3.6 TDV8 Vogue SE

17000 miles done in my SC and I haven't even owned it for a year. Even with the bonkers exhaust you can still settle into a near silent motorway cruise and let the day's ailments drift away as you relax in comfort. I'd get a diesel but they sound like tractors and I don't mind filling up as I have a coffee addiction and need to re-caffinate frequently anyway.
