ecu problem.

Hi everyone, just had my rr checked because the electric steering in out up down not working, also seat memory, independant says there is no signal from ecu- ie any fault issues. Ecu says seat memory-steering inactive. Won`t reset, also tick over won`t reset, He says either water ingress or bad conection on ecu. Anyone any ideas. Cheers Henry.

yes i have tried every thing, looks like a ecu fault. At the moment i can live without memory and elec steering adjust. I will get it fixed at some point.

Try finding the workshop manual online, it is in PDF (too big to email) and has a lot of info for the 2002-2005 models like yours. It shows you where the ECU is amongst others.

Also try to disconnect both clamps from the battery poles (after following the Wiki battery disconnection procedure) and hold the clamps together for 10 secs. This drains the ECUs power reserve and clears faults from the fault memory.

Then try again and if it still won't work, try to find someone with a diagnostic tool IID, Faultmate or the likes to see if there is any faultcode that will help you. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Had the battery disconected today by inde, plus he joined batt leads together and still no faults showing on his laptop( it is a blue one if that means anything) everything just said inactive. That is when he said maybe is bad conection.

I had a look at the workshop manual and the BCU is controlling the seats. It controls a lot of things by the way, not sure if it does the steering as well, but try to get it and have a good read, it is 28+MB and some 800 pages. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I have not worked on a BCU but what I remember reading here and/or on www.blackbox-solutions.com is that you need to remove the seat (believe it is only for bolts on the rails). Then you have the BCU in full view. In my experience, most plugs are seated really well with locking tabs and the likes but maybe one was not put back properly after someone worked on it, so first I'd push them in to see if they are seated properly. If all of them are (the BCU seems to have 3) then it is time to remove them, clean them as far as possible and spray with contact cleaner. Hope that does the trick Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

When you say remove the plugs do i have to disconect the battery first and does it throw any faults up when conected up again, ie will i need to have it put on the pc to get everything working again. I don`t want to take it off if it will cause even more problems.

I don't think a new BCU is that expensive. Ask Dan @ Duckworths....

Hi cam tech craig, that would be fine but there are no codes there to read, the screen is blank where they should be.
