Steering column reach problem

Well almost got to the bottom of my warning light problem and hey presto the reach on the column goes tits up Censored Its the normal plastic nut that sits on the column has stripped, as you know this is not available and the stealers say you need a whole new column at £1300!! Well f Censored k that im going to make a new one from ally that sits in the column the same as the useless plastic part. I will knock a few up if anyone wants one. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

I had exactly the same thing with mine, its a copper like nut, ive got a spare complete steering column in the garage with a spare one in case mine went again

All i did was take it out and the thead bar i then hit each side with a hammer until it slimmed down then re threaded it with the bar

I'd be very interested in an ally nut to replace the nylon rubbish that Land Robber's use.
How much would they cost? Bow down

Only a few pence, I may well sell some on E.bay but prob a quid or 2 to cover materials and post to FF members. really to complete the fix apparently you really need to run a corresponding tap down the threaded rod to get rid of the sharp points that develop, I would imagine a tap to be around £10 or borrow mine and post back One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

Had the same problem, constructed me a plastic nut, not easy to change, but it costs me only cents..., the dealer-stealer want to sell a new column...., each nut needs a hour work incl. changing! Regards, Uli L405 SDV8 2017 + Lancia Flavia Coupe 1964 + RRS L494 3.0 SDV6 + C220CDI Convertible 2021

Ive read your comments in the thread Uli and ive sent a pm, its a lot easier for me to just get a nut off you as im a bit smashed up from a bike accident and everything takes me 4 x the normal time to do. didnt realise someone else had come up with a solution to the problem already. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

I'd also be interested in buying one of these. My "up and down" is fine but my "in and out" has the same issue.. Laughing Ash

I woulfnt mind paying for one too please. My colum makes a squealing noise as it retracts. I thought it needed a bit of grease but maybe its starting to strip.

Many thanks Thumbs Up MY2010 TDV8 Vogue Ipanema Sand

Lot to be said for setting steering wheel to the position you want it in and then turning the function off.
Steering wheel stays where it is and nothing wears out or breaks. Thumbs Up
