Wont start

My 2006 Range Rover TD6 P322 after being garaged overnight would not start next morning, battery voltage good, ignition light and all panel lights good, checked voltage at ignition switch ok follow through to immobilisation relay but not switched through relay but clicking heard within unit.
Engineer from local Range Rover company on site with analyzer discovered fault showing on gearbox ECU advised by Help line USA to move gear stick through different positions that eventually cleared fault on gearbox that allowed engine to start.
Does anyone know what the sensors are that are connected to the ECUs around the car and what role they play.

Are you sure it was a fault that was showing, and not just a signal to say that the shift was not fully in PARK?? I know you know now, but usually moving the shifter back and forward will get it to start. Thumbs Up Previously..

Probably just the stick not fully in park - common thing, happend to me twice - both times while I was in a rush while parking up. Just moved stick out of and then back into park and works fine.

Sounds like the car didn't think you were in Park enough to allow starting. This could be due to a couple of things. The inhibitor switch, which lives on top of the gearbox behind the engine, may be the root of your problem, or you could be having problem with your selector cable/s (one that runs from gearstick to ignition, and one that runs from gearstick to gearbox). The latter can get bent or seize up at the linkage.

Search on forum and wiki about this. .

Have you ever greased the selector cable on the car?
If not, now's the time.
Details in the Wiki. Thumbs Up

Crying or Very sad wont start
Yesterday evening the car started So this morning needing the car to go shopping attempted to start it but guess what NO.. Went through your suggestions of moving the gear stick many many times noting that the gear position always indicated on front dash that it was in park ready to start. Checked condition of assembly around gear stick (cars only done 20k) all clean and greased well the link to the ignition switch works well and solinoid works well. I read from Joe90 it may be the inhibitor switch on top of the gearbox how do I get at it ?
Last thing when strying to start you can hear the relay clicking inside the immobilisation unit ?

Is it cranking but not starting? If so, have you checked the fuel pump underneath in front of NSR wheel?
When mine wouldn't start I gave the pump a whack with a srewdriver and it started.

Hi Richcl No it is not cranking but just a clicking from the immobilisation module

Hi nicedayforit yes I have lubricated all what you suggested but just a comment their like new

PLEASE HELP I am suspecting the YWC500234 unit is this relay directly replacable or does it need to be programmed in ?

Hi Joe90 Thanks for that info hope I never to look that far, however spent most of the afternoon tracing the fault and I think I narrowed it down to the ignition switch, as I said I could hear the relay in the immobilisation module chattering so when I checked voltage from ignition switch to immob unit found it to be showing 4 volts then I twisted the ignition switch and it showed full twelve volts and started up. I have read that some other owners have had problems with the same, all I have to do now is find the cheapest buy ??any ideals
Thanks again
Hepl Now I know the problem is the Ignition switch WHERE do I get one ??

Have you greased the selector cable and crank arm on the side of the gearbox?

Sorry, inhibitor switch on the GM 5L40E (TD6) box is inside the gearbox itself, the inhibitor switch for the ZF 5HP24 is on top of the gearbox (below the plenum chamber).

So unless you want to drop the sump, I would steer clear Rolling Eyes .

To all the members of this forum who replied to my battery problem on my RR 2006 TDi For a number of years (2) i suffered starting problems, so getting fed up with it I ordered from Amazon a combined amp/volt meter and a current shunt with all this ready to go I had one journey to make which to me close to the place I purchased my battery so I popped in and explained my problem, their suggestion was to replace the battery and send the old one for testing..... AND GUESS WHAT !!!!! they contacted me to inform me that the battery was faulty and would be replaced without charge. SO I've had it month with no trouble starting. So I never did get to do my test....

I own a 2006 Range Rover Vogue 3.0 L322 Diesel which I purchased from new and now with 33,000 miles the only problem I’ve had is the battery that has failed twice I have decided to keep it for a few more years. This model has a TV fitted but does not work due to being analogue. Does any member know how and where to purchase a digital replacement. I live in Bristol England UK

There is a member on here called Baris IIRC, his business is called Carphonics and is in Enfield.
I have never used him myself but people seem to rate him for audio issues and I noticed on his web site, also the bay of evil that he does tv tuner upgrades to get the digital channels. 2004 4.4V8 Vogue
